Heat and APCR ammo

Post by Jcatarino »

I'm in the 12th battle of a ww2 campaign playing with the Germans and I've never seen any of my tanks with a single Heat or APCR round. How do I get them? I searched the manual but I didn't find any reference about where to get this kind of ammo.

APCR and HEAT ammo loadouts are dictated by their default loadouts in the OOB files. You can manipulate this via the editor if you want. Some tank types have zero allotment. Most only have a couple rounds since they were historically rare.

A sudden thought, if your playing with reduced ammo loads on, this might be affecting things as well

yeah, I've noticed sometimes, as I play always with all the options on, that the reduced loads can knock off upwards of 20 rounds at times, so make sure you check all your AFV's load-outs, to make sure you don't go in battle with 6 rounds in one of your panzers!! No kidding, I had it happen already, good thing I also buy ammo vehicles as support!!;-) Very cool feature though.

What year you are playing?

HEAT ammo is very rare, it is mainly available for the CS-tanks like the short barreled Pz-IV's or the SturmHaubitzes. Also some arty units may have them.

APCR is also very rare, they usually come in amounts of 4-8 or so. Some tanks that have them are the 50mm L60 equipped Pz-III's and some later Pz-IV's also have couple. Tank destroyers have them too.

Remember that if you edit the unit's ammo loadouts that may benefit you nothing. You also have to enter the appropriate penetration values for the weapon itself. Many guns do not have those values. Also you might want to remember that a HEAT round has a built-in uncertainty which means that when it hits the penetration value can be as low as Zero (dud round). Normally it is well below the maximum penetration amount entered in the oob.

Ok, thank's for your help, I'm playing with limited ammo, so maybe someday I'll get one or two of those rounds.

You can check your ammo loadouts during the deployment phase. Just right click on the unit to bring up the information screen.
