Aircaraft ready times

Post by bodean713 »

How can I make my aircraft ready times default to 30 minutes instead of 3-6 hours?

Harpoon 3 [ANW] scenarios for the PlayersDB

Post by hermanhum »

You can do this by changing all the ready times for that database with the Database Editor.  However, once you do this, you must re-synchronize all scenarios written database or else the scenarios will not run.  If you are using the PlayersDB (like nearly everyone else), this means that you will need to re-synchronize nearly 400 scenarios.  This can be done by running the Scenario Editor and hitting the Re-build function.  Or, you can download each scenario (one at a time) and re-save it.  (No, I'm not kidding [:(])

This requirement is due to the silly Signature function incorporated by AGSI.  There isn't any way to get around it.

Welcome aboard, shipmate.  [8D]

You can launch the Scenario Editor with your ANW launcher. It should look something like the attached image. (I re-named my file and added the *._394 suffix so that I can keep track of the version number).

As per your request, a special customized edition of the PlayersDB has been made for you with only 30 minute ready times for all aircraft. In order to get around the ridiculous Signature requirement imposed by AGSI, the entire PlayersDB library has been re-built for your convenience. You can grab it at:

http://www.harplonkhq.com//Harpoon/Scen ... Bissel.zip

Be forewarned. Most scenarios written for the PlayersDB were written with the expectation of longer ready times. By playing them with only 30 min re-arm periods, you are not going to get the same experience originally intended by the author.

Also, this installer will wipe out any current PlayersDB folder/installation in your ANW folder. In addition, future PlayersDB releases will copy over and wipe out this customized installation. Therefore, you may wish to make a few backup copies of your current situation.

This file is not recommended for normal PlayersDB users as it will replace your current PlayersDB installation.

For the purposes of realism, the ready times really should be left above 30 minutes, just for the record. It comes down to whether you want to just play a game, or whether you would rather be realistic. If you just want to play a game, perhaps should find a game with an easier learning curve. Realistically, with the exception of "surge' operations, which themselves are quite short in nature, to the tune of perhaps a day or two..aircraft are hard pressed to fly more than 2 missions/day in modern usage, and usually, the expectation is approx .5/sorties-day for 3rd world, up to perhaps 1.5/day for "first world" aircraft.

Hey Dale !
Yes, my post looks harsher than I really meant it, my apologies to the OP. I am unsure how "fun" it is to have a bunch of a/c in hangars, unable to fly with the longer ready times, but in a way, it makes it more interesting as you must truly plan for when to launch air sorties, as they are so limited. To just launch and recover and turn around and launch again in 30 minutes, seems rather "arcade-ey to myself lol, but to each their own, and the more people enjoying the game, the better.
One thing that is very good, is the incredible support provided by all of the database makers for their products, and Herman here looks like he had one of the quicker reply times I have seen in helping the OP.

Therein lies the crux of the matter, IMO. I try not to use words like "realistic". As long as it 'works', it is 'realistic'.

There are already many things that cannot be simulated with Customized Ready Times. For example, planes can fly at any hour of the day. So, you get ## missions interspaced throughout the day even though those same ## missions should only be allowed during daylight hours. CRTs are not perfect, but they add an additional 'flavour' to the game. [:)]
