Range 1 artillery

Post by Abnormalmind »

Hi, how does one perform a range 1 bombardment? I have a bunch of range 1 low-caliber artillery, and cannot figure out how to simply bombard w/o putting it into assault mode (which is not what I want!).

Thanks!

I just move the range 1 unit adjacent to the target hex and then put it in 'T' mode myself.  In the ensuing attack by other units the range 1 unit will contribute it's fire like any other arty unit.  That's my understanding.

Hi, thanks. I do that when I have regular forces assaulting. But what about simply bombarding the target hex? For instance, the target hex is crowded and displays a red light. I'd like to soften up the target with bombardment before launching the assault, but my artillery is only range 1.

Provided it meets cooperation requirements.

Under 3.2, the only way it can bombard is if it lacks the ability to enter the target hex. Under 3.4, adjacent artillery will automatically bombard if more than half their combat strength is from ranged equipment.
