Additional Downloadable Scenarios?

Based on Slitherine’s popular tabletop wargaming system by the same name, Field of Glory now comes to the PC in a faithful adaptation of this acclaimed miniatures wargame! Without the calculations and measurements required for a tabletop game of Field of Glory, the PC version accurately represents Ancient and Medieval combat where you make the important and fun decisions on the battlefield. This forum also supports the Rise of Rome, Storm of Arrows and Immortal Fire expansions to Field of Glory.

Additional Downloadable Scenarios?

Post by bssybeep »

Nice...Saves a few bucks going through the exchange rate when buying from Slitherine. Great timing, my Visa rebate from a cell phone purchase just arrived today, used it on FoG.[:D]

Hopefully Slitherine will release additional scenarios for AI play for download like HPS did for their ancients series.

Downloading now.

In my case. Buying from Matrix in USD is cheaper than buying from Slitherine in GBP. [:D]

For sure, if I remember correctly buying direct from Slitherine with the exchange rate was going to cost me ~$33.  Also I like the support Matrix gives for their releases.  So I was excited seeing the announcement from Matrix's and made the purchase from Matrix's.

Just started my first game.  Clastium 222BC.

1.Having played some of the HPS ancients games as a comparision, I really like the FOG graphics.  The unit artwork is very nice, sharp and crisp with recognizable unit colors.
2.Interface is very nice and user firendly.  I really like it compared to the HPS series.

Here's a link to a user-made scenario which was posted at Slitherine's forum for FOG in their Scenario Design section.

Clastium is the first (and only so far) scenario I played and I got my butt kicked. [X(]

I also have several HPS games and I like the way FoG works much better in comparison.

The scenario designer is very good. Within minutes you can have a custom game going.

The interface is very smooth, help is excellent the way it is incorporated in, all features work nice. The game is a real gem in my opinion. The only drawback is it's not very big and some gamers will get bored easily. However it does what it is designed to do and it does it perfectly. [:D]

Played the first scenario twice.
First time was a draw and I eventually won as Romans in the next.

Graphics is decent.  Playing the game is a no-brainer because of the simple system and sleek interface.  I just need to know which tactics work in what situation and the strenghts and weaknesses of the units.  The small scale is perfect for PBEM.

Gotta read the 'help' one of these days to find out about some things that missed.  But you can get by your first scenario without readying any of it. [:D]

Just issued a challenge last night and started the PBEM game this morning.

Well I won two scenarios and it locked up at the victory screen both times. Had to shut the PC off. Lot of good a fun game does now! [:@]

I think everyone's busy playing  and playing some more (via pbem server).   Once that slows down there should be a slew of custom scenarios coming out.

The editor was pretty easy to figure out for myself other than asking where to adjust leader values (rt click on unit) and the scenario description text editor not being very friendly by not allowing you to move your cursor back and insert more text.  Maybe they've fixed the text thing since release, not sure.

Anyway, I've made two scenarios.  It took me more time researching and typing a description (one in which I mangled my original draft) than it did setting the actual scenario up.  Give the editor a spin!

Have been reading through all of these forums since the release. Keep reading how 'small' all of the scenarios are. Question is: can you make them larger with the editor or are they limited to a specific, smaller size?
Thanks.

The choices are:

Width 10, 20, 30, 40, 50
Height 10, 20, 30, 40, 50

So 10x10 is the smallest and 50x50 is the largest. You can pick any variation in between.

You can edit any scenario you created in many ways, but I don't think you can change the size once it's been created. I'll go have another look and come back... Nope, you can't edit the stock scenarios unless maybe you put them into the custom directory, that may work but I haven't tried it. You also can't change the size once created.

I hope I didn't mix you up... [8|]

It is possible, not simple but neither difficult, by editing a xml file with notepad. [;)]

I hadn't checked that out. Good idea. That should be a simple task. However I went into the xml for my custom scenario and changed the width and height and it closed the program with a fault.

You must edit also all the "<hex l0="0" l1="0" sides="000000000000000000000000"/>" rows, I resolved by delete the original rows and copying in those from another scenario.

OK. That's a lot more work then. I would rather just create a new scenario the size I want instead. The scenario editor is so easy and fast to use.

Keith says you can have 1 unit per tile - so a 50x50 map which is pretty big can have 2500 units!

2500 would be too many units for me. I'm happy with the 20x20. On my 20" LCD at 1600x1200, it fills my screen nicely and is manageable.
