Game Crash -No New Windows

Post by turbospeeder »

Nice game but crashes frequently. I have done all the usually, updates all drives, deleted game reinstalled, defrag hard drives, etc. Problem: Playing game fine for about 10 -30 minutes, and then problem occurs that I cannot open another window, e.g. if I click to open a item like city list, save game, etc. it will not open. I get a musical note repeating when the problem occurs. It does not occur in any other games or programs I run. The work around I have used it to start word, excell, then start FOF, when error occurs, I close word and excell and this lets me at least save my game progress. Then I must restart my computer so I can open any new windows. Help, love the game, but cannot continue to play it with these errors and reluctant to buy any other matrix games for fear they may have same behavior. Sometimes I get a C++ asertion failure when problem occurs, but not always. If I restart the game with saved game it works fine for another 10 - 30 minutes but then same error occurs.

Did you uninstall the game using the "Add/Remove programs" utility in the control panel? Just was wondering, because "deleted game" could mean almost anything. You have to make sure to get all the registry settings removed before you reinstall.

Sound and video card drivers have been updated?

It doesn't sound like an overheating issue, because that would affect other games as well.

What do you use for an anti-virus package? Have you tried disabling that while you play FoF?

It could be almost anything, turbospeeder, but to me it sounds like either a corrupt install of the game or some incompatibility with some other software package or driver. I have been playing FoF for three solid months on two different computers without experiencing anything like you have.

I've alerted our programmer EricBabe to your post, but should ask a basic question: are you using the most recent patch? This reminds me of a memory leak problem that I believe was fixed in the first or second patch. But if you just got the game then the version you have already has those patches running, so it's probably something else.

Would you mind posting your DirectX diagnostic results?  My guess, based on your description, is that you may be encountering low memory issues.
