malaya campaign

Post by herbieh »

Im currently reading an Australian Army review of the loss of Malaya( printed in 1962) and the overiding view was the effect that japanese air superiority was a deciding factor. Now the principle cause of this was( and both sides attest to this) that the Japanese captured so many air fields crammed full of fuel and ammo intact, and put them into full operation often within hours of capture. In UV Im still struggling to get airfields up and running in weeks. Im really hoping that as my victorious Imperial Army sweeps south the airfields are available as per the real thing. Any thoughts Matrix? Allied troops in malaya didnt fight that well( please no arguments on that, a very general statement), how will matrix replicate that?

Already started the computer upgrade for this dream game, cant wait to carrier raid Sydney, Los Angeles, New zealand, ect, ect.
( cause Im going to sink everything):D

Yah, but remember, you can't buy beer, you can only rent it (Archie Bunker).

Ive been able to capture airbases in UV and operate from them immediatly. The only hinderence is getting sufficient base forces to the airbases. This is entirely realistic. For even a airbase captured with supplies and fuel would quickly become in-operable without the proper ground personel.

So to answer your question I would expect judging from UV, that the Malaya campaign with respect to captured airbases will be realistically modeled.

Hello...

Sungei Patani, at Penang Is. has a size 4 airfield.
Alor Star has a size 4 airfield.
Khota Baru has a size 6 airfield.
Taiping, south of Penang Is., has a size 3 airfield.
Kuala Lumpur has a size 2 airfield.
Malacca has a size 1 airfield.
Kuantan has a size 4 airfield.
Mersing has a size 3 airfield.
Johor Bahru has a size 4 airfield.
Singapore has a size 4 airfield.

As you can see, there are a number of good airfields in Malay. The Japanese player can have use of Sungei Patani and Alor Star within a few days of December 7. Most airfields should be in pretty good supply shape, upon capture. You will need to fly in a base support unit and a couple squadrons and you will be operational.

Bye...

Hello...

Please ignore the graphics in the screen shot. They do not include the new flags, such as the British flag, the new interface art or any of the other planned changes.

The new symbols on the bottom are used for production/resource and let the player see the oil, manpower, mineral resources, each of the factories and stuff like that. When you click on one of them, you get a pop-out box with details.

Uncommon Valor did not have these concerns, but we did leave room at the bottom of the screen for these icons. Part of our master plan.

Got to get back to programming...

Looks like we're gettin' some control of port functions, eh?

How would you like to try that drive from Medan to Palembang in yer family sedan?

As the old song says:

"Gimme that thing, gimme that, gimme gimme that, gimme that thing, gimme that, gimme gimme that, gimme that thing, gimme that, gimme gimme that, gimme gimme gimme that thing." (Ah, rock and roll lyrics were so inspired and deep).

Hello Mike

Just curious, why Khota Baru is a 6 airfield while Singapore is only a 4? Singapore island had 3 airfields. It would seem to me that it should have the largest airbase in Malaya. Again no big deal, just curious what the reasoning is, if any.

You Matrix guys are the bees knees, I sing your praises, Malaya questions answered perfectly satisfactorily!
Timings for the conquest of Malaya are being planned.
Meanwhile UV becomes more addictive every day!

Keep up the good work!

Hello...

Don't know the specifics of any bases in Malay. I just write code. Our historical folks may have reasons and the values may change before release.

Bye...
