COG:EE NATO style chits

This sequel to the award-winning Crown of Glory takes Napoleonic Grand Strategy to a whole new level. This represents a complete overhaul of the original release, including countless improvements and innovations ranging from detailed Naval combat and brigade-level Land combat to an improved AI, unit upgrades, a more detailed Strategic Map and a new simplified Economy option. More historical AND more fun than the original!

COG:EE NATO style chits

Post by RyanCrierie »

Currently a WIP. I'm reusing a lot of what I did for my Forge of Freedom Chits, modified slightly.

As you can tell, I tried to stick to the traditional infantry colors for them; like Green for Russia, and Red for the Brits.

The problem comes for the other nations -- everyone loved to use variations of blue! You have the prussian dark blue, then the French are either white/blue depending on whether they are the Revolutionary Period or the Imperial period. So I sort of fell back onto the traditional wargame standbys for Spain/Swedeen/Turkey.

I can understand the problems the Empire Total War guys felt in trying to make the infantry units of such a large spread of history unique from each other when everyone was wearing blue/white. [:@]

Right now; I've got the symbol backing being the US Army's traditional branch colors, like light blue for infantry, jungle green for special forces/jaeger/riflemen; and when I get to it, scarlet for artillery.

Great work! I can't wait until you have the set done!

Thanks so much for doing them!

Here's the current chits:

I've tried to use historical uniform colors wherever possible, with some tweeks for playability, such as spain or turkey. The symbols are based off NATO APP-6 and US 2526 symbols wherever possible, with some influences from WWII German Symbols (black bars on left to indicate 'heavy' units; and General HQ flags)

The color behind the symbol is that branch's historical color in the US Army; e.g. horse artillery has a mix of yellow (cavalry) and red (artillery) colors.

However, I could change it to something like that nation's secondary color;

Napoleonic (Imperial) France Line Infantry: (Blue Coat; White Leggings)
Austrian (German) Line Infantry: (White Coat, White Leggings)
Austrian (Hungarian) Line Infantry: (White Coat, Light Blue Leggings)
British Army: (Red Coat, White Leggings)
Prussian IR of Prince Henry (Dark Blue Coat, Yellow Leggings)
Prussian IR: (Dark Blue Coat, White Leggings)
Russia: (Green Coat, White Leggings)
Spanish Cavalry: (Blue Coat, Yellow Leggings)
Swedish Infantry: (Grey Coat, Grey Leggings) Link

But I have a question regarding depots.

In the graphics file, there are four different files for land depots, and apparently one for naval depots. Are these used in the game?

It's why I numbered my depot chits from IV (Weakest) to I (Strongest).

The original COG had naval depots, though they looked like ordinary depots. I'm not sure why that ship-depot wasn't used. My guess is that there are four depots so that we could decide which one looked best.

After finding problems with my earlier style of chits; I went back and redid them, so that they wouldn't break the visual style of COG too much.
