MARIANAS SCENARIO v1 NOW PLAYABLE

Post by Andy Mac »

OK Guys not doing this with my dev hat on

So this is just me but I have been building a marianas limited map scenario

So far I have a map and a first draft of the Jap Land and Allied ORBAT

I have a first draft of the Japanese naval ORBAT and a reasonable cut of the USN combat ships

This is waaaaaay waaaaay out of my knowledge base so any comments welcome. In fact if anyone has time to check everything int here so far would be appreciated.

Still need to do the air side (which I may be gettingsoem help with) and I need to try and build the transports for the USN which I have zero idea how I am going to do. So if anyone has a list of which AKA#s APA's LST's etc served in this campaign would be really welcome.

AI I havent even started to think about yet.

So it doesnt work as yet and it probably won't be a real version 1 until post Christmas but I thought I would share where I am up to so far and see if anyone can help

Save is this thread

Andy, have you looked at the US Army, Navy & UISMC histories at Hyperwar.
I know the Army History went into a lot of detail for Okinawa, I cant remember the detail on the Marianas.

yes I picked them clean but they are a bit lacking on who garrisoned the bases I have the main assault forces but its the follow on forces and the marshalls guard force that I am lacking

In AE the difficulty is not the main combatants its all the little aux's that take the time

really right field, (assuming you are looking for US info?)

There is a site that list combat credits given to units, as the Marianas were not cleared immediatly maybe some of these units got combat credit for garrison duty.

Andy,
here you can find a detailed OOB for the Northern Attack Force (TF52) http://www.ibiblio.org/hyperwar/USN/ACTC/actc-21.html (from page 878). I've got an OOB for the Southern Attack Force (TF53) but not as detailed (no names for most of the amphips and aux).
IICR in Morison’s History of United States Naval Operations in World War II Vol. 8 there’s a pretty detailed OOB unfortunately I can’t seem to find the book.

Great thanks I have used hyperwar quite a lot.

Its startingto come together I have a decent enough attempt at a 1st stab in reality although to be correct i should have the right defence units in the Marshalls actually it probably doesnt matter as lets face it the Japanese dont have any ships to launch an attack with so as long as I stick a seabee and av unit on each one they dont really have to be the right av support and seabee unit.

I need to add some PT boats and a couple more destroyers as I only have the fleet destroyers in at present.

After that I will have enough land and sea for a working 1st draft

Then its onto Air then finally Ai

I will definitely be playing this one!

Good one for beginners too, because it introduces the complex amphibious ops to be learned as Allies.

I probably need to dig out a rough OOB for the land based air - one of my colleauges is goign to do it properly but until that is finished I would probably like to rough one in to allow some testing anyone know the OOB of the Japanese or Allies in the Marshalls/marianas in the Air at this time.

Doesnt need to be exact just an approximation as I think its being done properly elsewhere

OK really rough air OOB to get a working prototype will be

Allied
-    11th BG (26th, 42nd, 98th, 421st BS)(flying B-24s)
-    30th BG (21st, 27th, 38th, 392nd, 819th BS)(flying B-24s)
-    318th FG (19th, 72nd, 73rd, 333rd FS)(flying P-47s)
plus a few USN PBY/SBD and F4U Sqns

I will throw in a few of the below as well

73d Bomber Wing HQ & HQ Sqn
313rd Bomber Wing HQ & HQ Sqn
314th Bomber Wing HQ & HQ Sqn

FIGHTER GROUPS
8, 18, 35, 49, 58,318(HQ), 347, 348, 475

BOMB GROUPS
3, 5, 6(HQ), 9 (HQ), 11(HQ), 19(HQ), 22, 29(HQ), 30(HQ), 38,39,40
42, 90, 307, 308(HQ), 312, 345, 380, 444, 462, 468, 494(HQ), 497(HQ)
498(HQ), 499(HQ), 500(HQ), 504(HQ), 505(HQ)

Japanese
Naval Air Group 121 Cdr Iwao 48 D4Y1 At Tinian 1 and Peleiu
Naval Air Group 261 Cdr Ueda 72 A6M5At Saipan 1
Naval Air Group 263 Cdr Tamai 72 A6M5 At Guam 1 and Yap
Naval Air Group 265 Cdr Urata 72 A6M5 At Guam 1 and Peleiu
Naval Air Group 321 Cdr Kubo 72 J1N? At Tinian 1
Naval Air Group 521 Cdr Kamei 96 P1Y? At Guam 2 Tinian 2
Naval Air Group 523 Cdr Wada 96 D4Y1 At Tinian 1 and Yap

Naval Air Group 1021 Cdr Kurihara 12 L2D1 At Tinian 1
Naval Air Group 755 Cdr Kusumoto 48 G4M? At Guam 1

With this lot and the last few DD's I will get something with all the bits in but still needing to be checked and playtested then when I get the proper air OOB I can overwrite what we have above
