Having problems with CCWAR and TLD

Post by tgierut »

hey all,
I spent all day saturday trying to troubleshoot why CCWAR and the TLD (which I just purchased) is not workinng. The symtoms are as follows:
1. I load the game and the video plays
2. The screen turns black and there is nothing there but an arrow.
3. if I alt tab out of it, I see the screen it is on and if I push buttons (like next) it will change screens, but will only show the latest one and remain disfunctional.
4. if I hit F8 for options I can see the current screen.

I have disabled videos and enabled them, played with settings on graphics card. When I restart the games it shows the last screen it was at b4 showing then video if enabled. The games are not at all functional and I need some tips and hints to try to get them to work.

I have COI and that works fine and have no problems running that game. My son has "Empires Total War" on that computer along with Warcraft, those games have no issues. I also have pardox games on there and they do not have issues.

Tonight I am going to try to uninstall service pack 3, but I need some tips and where to look in order to better troubleshoot and get the games working...

Can you attach a dxdiag here pleae?

Do you have directx 9c installed?

Do you have direct3d enabled?

DirectX is installed, everything else seems to be set fine

CC5, COI, CC2 work on the wide screen.

TLD now works as long as I use windows mode. I tried using "-w" for that in WAR but did not change the result.

I had recently upgraded to a wide screen monitor and that seems to be the issue, I hooked my old monitor and was able to get WAR
working again. But now I need to use 2 monitors for playing CC. Screen resolution has to be set right as well, it seems everything is very touchy. This does not occur with other programs on the system, tongiht I will post my specs on the forum, when I am at home. I have a work around for the moment and that is ok, but I would like to get the games working on one monitor.

tyvm,

Tom

Try holding down the ctrl key at the same time you click on PLAY.

This will open the options menu.

Turn off vides and see if that works.

You mention "working on one monitor" so you have dual monitors? How do you have windows setup to use them? Example; One extended desktop or Primary/Secondary

The problem started back in October when I purchased a new graphics card, I figured it was the settings and also I was playing COI and CC5 with others with no problems. Since then I also purchased a wide screen which I was using and all other games worked fine accept for CCWAR. Saturday I sat down and tried to trouble shoot the problem, this Monday I have it resolved by using the old digital as primary and the wide screen as secondary. The problem seems to have been an outdated driver that was overlaid via a windows update. I downloaded the current one from the manufacture on Monday and that has both CCWAR and TLD working. I played 2 full campaign days in CCWAR and no problems. The thing that threw me off was that COI, CC5, CC2 and other games would work on the messed up driver, just CCWAR and TLD did not, sorry for the post, just was unaware that the driver was outdated until I scanned it. Thanks for the help anyhow.

Tejszd, I am still playing the Meuse mod with people, I was wondering if you’re planning to move it to TLD or CCWAR. Since I would like to see that mod ported over to the new version, I would love to assist you in that endeavor

Cheers,
Tom

Hi tgierut,

Glad to hear you still play Meuse. I do have a couple versions on the hard disk that are not out in the public;

CC5 - fixed stone fence crushed image and winter trees on some maps (Terrain, TerrainA.stm and some map txt files)
WAR - started to port it over but never finished as TLD came out
TLD - ported it over and have made a lot changes which I'm testing now

that's great mate, looking foward to your release soon. Have been playing the mod since like 2001...just recently came back to CC this year after being gone for 6 years and that was always a favorite mod of mine.

Cheers,

CCWAR and TLD use a newer version of directx so this was probably the reason.
