early allied withdrawal strats - brunei

Post by jackyo123 »

i restarted a pbem game last night with a new opponent, and noticed that the 3 base force units in the north of brunei are all ABDA command - which means they can be evacuated.

Unfortunately, i dont think there is enough sealift in Manila to do it, which means shipping AP's up from Singapore, a risky operation with half the japanese fleet coming down on you.

Do any allied players out there actuAlly try and save these units? I could really use them in Port Moresby early on, as I always find I am short of Aviation Support there until mid / late 42. Am also usually short of AV in Milne bay as well.

I got two of them out of there in time; if you send ships up from Java quickly they can get in and out before the air cover gets too heavy.  The one at Beaufort was trapped, but I managed to get some of the unit out via sub though.

interesting. I didnt think about taking them out by sub, since i've had issues with loading heavy equipment. But all i am really interested in are the Aviation support units, so a sub is a good idea.

You won't get everything out by sub, but you can get enough to rebuild the unit later that way.  I evacuated most of the Cebu BF by sub when the surface TF I sent there to pick it up was sunk by airstrikes.

Not that I want to give the enemy advice or anything as I play the Japanese now. LOL But you could try air transporting those land units to another base further south. Even if you only get part of the unit away and the rest gets destroyed, the small parts that get away will eventully build back up into full strength units given enough supply and time.

Moving your PBYs from the PI to close by bases and grabing them with an airlift is also doable. There are always more jobs for those PBYs than airplanes and time it seems like though! [:)]

All the best

You can use the Dutch flying boats as well to pull them out.
