A Little Gem
Bought this game for a pre christmas gift (to myself) not really expecting too much, but it is a little gem of a game. I have played and enjoyed several battles and with expansions coming out this could be a long lasting pleasure. Get and enjoy!![:)][:)]
RE: A Little Gem
It's a simpler game than a lot at Matrix but it does what it's supposed to do and does it all well. I've had lots of fun with this game. The scenario editor works excellent too.
There is a new patch for it over at Slitherine

Agreed. I bought it the other day, to give me something to do over the holidays. Gave it a try last night and couldn't stop playing. Takes me back (as i'm sure it's supposed to ) to the old days playing with miniatures but without the time consuming arithmetic involved !
I'd recommend it to anyone.

Glad you like it - now go and tell your friends to buy it!
Seriously - the more cross posting you can do on other forums the better for the game (and us!). The community is so fragmented it is really hard to get the word out to wargamers!

I'm getting the word out as best I can.
Is there any way to create a Campaign Scenario where the opposing forces maneuver to contact?

Thanks - not sure what you mean about a campaign scenario? You mean linked battles?

Is there going to be an army editor added to this soon?

Not really linked battles, but start a scenario where the armies are looking for each other and deploy when they make contact. Assign victory conditions with a mixture of geographic locations and combat losses. No big deal, just brain-storming. And no comments about my brain [:-]

No plans for anything quite like that but you can choose free deployment which lets you decide where to deploy your forces. We may look at a campaign game of some sort for a later expansion but not sure what form it would take. The army builder is the next big step.

I keep hearing about the term Army Builder and I see on the scenario list three army builder scenario's. I'm not familiar with the table top version, so could you explain what exactly an Army Builder is? I guess also that I could open up one of them and see for my self..

RE: A Little Gem
The army builder lets you design your army, much as you would for a tabletop game. You select the army you want to use - e.g. Parthians. The Parthians have certain troop types such as Light Horse, Cataphracts etc. Each troop category has a minimum number of compulsory units of each type and a maximum number. Each troop type costs points based on the balancing so Cataphracts cost a lot more than Light Horse. The costing is modified by the equipment, training and quality of the unit. Sometimes you will be able to downgrade you troops to poor quality for a points saving. Other times you will choose to upgrade to Superior or Elite for better strike power. Not all units have all options. E.g. you can't have poor Spartan Hoplites. You design the composition and equipment of your army up to a set number of points. This is the army builder.
This is combined with a new play mode, which allows you to take your designed army in to a match against other armies of the same points value. You can select the opposing army or randomly set it and let the AI pick it or use a pre set list you have already defined. These battles willbe on random terrain so they give an almost infinite number of replay options. Once you play you usually find your army design could be improved so you tweak it and try again.
All of this can be done in single or multiplayer. It's going to be aewsome

Another question. What is the difference between Army Builder and the Starter Army scenario's. I guess that I was confusing the two. Of course it doesn't take much to confuse me!!

I believe the "starter army scenarios" were mainly pulled from the tabletop's scenarios featuring examples of nice little starter armies.

Best money I spent on a wargame in the last years! Multiplayer games are quick and funny and the replayability is high.

Agreed. Its a great game and such a pleasure to play. The multiplayer option works like a dream. The patch additions and expansion plans are icing on the cake.

I think the overall impression is that it is such fun to play.... The scenario builder really gives this game longevity. Just hope theexpansions cover the middle ages. [&o]
