Ground losses on ships

Post by castor troy »

Hi

Do you get victory points for troops lost on ships? In WITP you could sink a whole division loaded onto ships and didn´t get a single point for ground losses. Has this been changed in AE?

ciao

5jan42 - ij lcu losses(AI) exceed allied lcu by 1/3 due to high number of loaded merchant ship sinkings; in land combat the allies are loosing heaps and inflicting little damage. Aggressive forward deployment of SAGs enabled this. PTs helped at great cost.

I think DarkestHour has seen VP for troops sunk on ships. But, I have never seen them. Either points for my troops drowned, or the AI's troops drowned (and I've seen dozens and dozens of examples of the AI losing troops in the water.)

I never saw VP in WITP for troops sunk on ships, and I haven't seen them in WITP AE. To be honest, I have stopped looking for VP's. I'm not sure if it's been addressed in the last patch.

I have seen VP for air groups sunk on ships. I've confirmed that at least 7 or 8 times in my games vs the AI. That works whether you sink a carrier or a merchant with planes.

I've had suspicions that the VP for troops calculations are not working as intended. I've seen very small gains when wiping out multiple divisions at times. Every once in a while I consider setting up some tests to confirm/deny my suspicions, but I only play the AI and it's not an issue for me. (VP's don't matter to me. Playing the game is what I enjoy. Not claiming superiority over the AI. [;)] )
The older I get, the better I was.

I don't think they give VP for units destroyed on ships. I'm not sure, but I seem to recall that they said there was problems when determining VP if a unit was partially destroyed, ie. 1 out of 3 ships containing a unit.

That shouldn't be much of a problem since ground unit VPs are based upon the number of squads, vehicles and guns destroyed. If one ship out of three carrying a ground unit is sunk with no survivors, then the VP could be awarded for the squads, etc aboard that one ship.
fair winds,
