That is an interesting strategy in Malaya. I had never considered defending in a non base hex but your logic makes alot of sense. Not being able to prep for the hex makes attacking it alot harder and air attacks are going to be costly against AA (as a Jap player I know all about that[:D]) and he will not like the cost in pilots and planes. One thing though I have noticed that when forces get pushed back they tend to not be able to stand after that so once he gets you moving back he may walk right over you if things don't go exactly as you plan. Good luck though. The longer you delay him there the harder it will be to take Java and poiints further west and east[:D]

It aint worked yet....[:D]

OK what other deployable assets do i have

8th Marine Regt
53rd Seperate US Regt
3 Regts of 40th Inf Div
3 Regts of 24th and 25th Divs
2nd Para Bn
41st Div
27th Div
Americal Div
13th Canadian Bde

and a few other follwo on forces.

Not all of these are ready and some will need PP's

Ideally what I want to do is send 25th Div's 3 Regts plus 8th Marines to the SOPAC and replace them in PH with another Div thats not 100% combat ready.

Basically shuffle it so a Div is constantly getting combat ready at PH maintaining a 2 Div garrison there while other forces are shuffled to the SOPAC.

I am short of lift from the West Coast at present although Queen Elizabeth covers 17 hexes a day so she will be back quickly and can lift the best part of a Regt alone

A fast convoy has just left SF with 2 Regts of US Infantry and 3 Sqns of P39's 10,000 tonnes of fuel and 30,000 tonnes of supply covered the Cruiser Concord and 3 Destroyers this convoy is the 1st of many that must get through

A follow on convoy with the 47th Constn Bn and 19th Combat Engr Regt is loading
and will also have a substantial escort.

B17's are being rushed forward to act as LR Search platforms I almost feel naked at present as I cannot see much out there

Andy, I like sending the 8th Marines to PM. It has excellent combat power, and plenty of reinforcements. Later it can act as the main assualt unit. marines get lots of reinforcements.

The 18th Div I send to Darwin. Initally to hold, then to act as a possible offensive weapon.

That can free the Aussie Divs up to help in India.

Good luck!

Cheers

Well, if it pleases you I'm not too happy about it either.

I'm following this AAR with interest and I wish I could give you some suggestions, but I'm afraid that they'll be used against me [:D]. I guess I'll try and use them in my allied game if I ever get one running.

I guess the most important component for such a game would be an opponent who doesn't quit (i've had two so far).

Every time I have reinforced PM, my opponent hits it with KB, BBs and enough troops to take it. Then my reinforcements wind up starving tin the jungle. [:@]

Sorry to hear about your accident. Glad you are OK. Got to get the trunk open and get those files out.

That was my first thought - most modern sedans seems to have the rear seat hinged even though it's rarely used.

Good luck.

It was -8 when I left London this morning which is nothing to some of the foklks on the forum but I was driving a hardtop convertible so unfortunately I cannot get to boot via the back seat :(

I think I have it working and PZB has not sent me a turn so I will sign off for tonight.

The main debates will be what forces to send to PM.

When I get the next turn I will give the full rundown of current forces and intended reinforcements and a rough timetable for the build up.

The main issue at present is lack of fighters to escort any bombers.

PZB is being very very methodical in his approach so far - no mistakes no uncovered TF's patiently rolling forward with unstoppable momentum

I will try to derail that momentum but only when it suits me.

I'm at the end of 12/41 with your 'special' Ironman mod (Scen 80) and have yet to figure out what to do with my Aussies. [&:]   Any ideas of what to do with them??  Do you combine the components into their parent divisions?? Why or why not??

FYI - Those extra Japanese carriers are really being a PITA in the SRA. [X(]

Aussie Militia Divs are a hard temptation that IMO must be resisted.

It is very easy to buy out a Bde or two of a partial Div and rush them forweard - undertrained and equipped with low morale and no heavy equipment.

I have doen it everyone has done it hell in real life they did it with 39th Bn

But you must resist unless the need is desperate.

That manpower when upgraded is vital later int he war to the Australian Army losing a couple of hundred CMF Militia Sections when they are next thing to useless against anything but a raid is wastefull and you dont get that many replacements later - you will struggle to fill up all the Divs.

So resist unless its critical until they are at LEAST CMF Sections and not CMF Militia Sections and at least 50xp with a full allocation of support weapons.

Personally as I view this is a Divisional level game I recombine two or 3 of them straight away and set them to train up and rest. These are the Divs that will later be bought out for operation in NG. Other units are spread about West North and East Coast Australia.

Divisions should always fight as Divisions where ever possible - Bde Groups and especially Bn Groups get eaten up and spat out in combat - they have no staying power - you need properly constituted Divs with adequate support and supporting weapons to do a job IMO.

OK a good turn for me this one !!!

1ST bit of good news my SCTF's caught an underguarded Japanese Invasion TF while it was at anchor unloading

It was screened by a light TF that didnt get the job done a mixed Dutch/USN TF went in and sank the lot.

1st mistake PZB has made.

Second piece of god news

4 Army A-24's caught an uncovered TF at Manus.

Now as it happens a further 18 Marine SBD-2's were also at rabaul but didnt fly so he may decide to stick around figuring 4 Army DB's are weak.

If he does it could be fun tommorrow as a small USN DD TF is in the vicinity and will go into Manus harbour tomorrow.

Apart from that the air battle of Manila and Singapore are lost nothing more I can do my aircraft are being attrited to fast I am pulling out of Sinagpore to rebuild.

RAAF and RAF Buffalo Sqns are heading for India before tavoy falls and the route is cut.

One RAF Buffalo Sqn is en route to PM as I dont like having no land based fighters in the South Pacific or Australia.

So a single RAF Buffalo Sqn will head that way to give some help.
