When should I worry???

Post by Bondo16 »

Playing full campaign,as Japan vs. AI, date is Jan 3/42. I've been living the "expansionists dream" so far with only continued resistance in capturing Singapore, Alor Star, Hong Kong and Bataan. Besides dealing with Allied subs and the Dutch air attacks from Soerabaja, Palembang and Kendari things have been fairly smooth. But I feel like I'm gonna be in for a rude awakening and I guess Im asking, when are the Americans gonna wake up and turn the tide??

If you are playing against a human in PBEM, you got Singapore mighty early.

As an allied player in PBEM, I do not have the forces to start a serious effort until late in 42.

Well I started a game back February of this year, its now 9/43 and as americans I took everything up to Guam/Saipan, Aztec retook most of northern New G up to Wewak, the British are all the way down taking Java right now. I would say Turning point was 10/42 when P-38s came out helping me escort those 4E everywhere.

When should I worry???

If you find a pregnancy test in the bathroom wastebasket, "now" would be a good time.

Well just remember this Bondo16, very few Japanese players win the war, so eventually you can hold out until that pregnancy test comes back to haunt you in 9 months....

In my first game as the Japanese vs AI, the Allies didn't get started on an offensive until mid-43 in Burma, late-43 in New Guinea and late-44 in the Central Pacific.

In my second game as Japanese vs AI, the AI started to counter attack at Noumea in March 1942 and Port Moresby in August 43. It is now September 1944 and the fight for Port Moresby is still in progress with no Allied activity elsewhere.

I am playing the AI in 2 Games as Allies (basically i'm an allied fanboy) and both games around 4/42 the Japanese are long dead, First game I gave up moresby as a joke to see if the AI would do anything else, wrong. Second game I defended Moresby off, KB got spanked and thats the end of it.

Only thing I can't stand really is the Japanese AI refuses to build planes, Its 9/43 now and it seems japanese airpower is hardly noticeable. I practically fly all my air OP missions without escort, few places like Truk have reinforcements of Ki-61's for no reason at all, Rubaul gets a handful of betties now and then and thats it.

Kendari got a few bomber squadrons and replace them sparingly also.

Are you playing "reasonably" historically??

If yes, you would need to clear up Singapore etc and start working on a defensive line by mid 42. Keep KB handy as the AI will try stupid CV raids in DEI and regularly send in smaller raids elsewhere. You can take out the US CV one by one.

Keep a reserve of Betty's centrally, Saipan, Truk etc so they can transfer to a threatened area, usually in 1 hop.

Pick your prefered fighters and concentrate on building them.

If you can put off the AI counterattack by sinking the USN CV's you should be able to build a string defense.

If you are not playing "historically", go hunting CV, take advanced bases and totally screw with the AI.

Buy WITP-AE, its AI is at least 100% improvement on WITP.

uhh, i'm playing as the allies, I read some AAR reports on AE and pleased a few patches came out since I decided not to switch over right away until some of the nasty bugs got fixed, which soon as either of my Allied game ends, im switching (I have AE bought in august I haven't even opened it yet).

But as allies, the Japanese AI is horribly weak. And I am on "hard" mode.

I was answering Bondo, the forum automatically answers the last post [8D]

Yeah, the AI in WITP isnt much, thats why I believe you have to keep to a historical approach, otherwise take Hokkaido in 1942 and bomb Tokyo into the ground starting 1943.

AE will be a revealtion, not always for the good but mostly. The AI is also better, but as I go on  it seems to get into a similar pattern.

Well biggest problem with the AI is that it runs by scripts. Just like in the old command & conquer days, basically they would make so many tanks/infantry and send toward you the whole game, hardly any mixing up done. If you wanted a funny joke, build a wall around the Nod/GDI base and they'd be trapped for the entire game.

Im looking forward to AE, i read some AAR reports and early forums of people whining like no tomarrow about how the AI pops up out of no where. Seems great to me!

Misconduct,

In AE, the AI popping up from nowhere could be due to his TF's being "Stargated" across the Pacific. (I believe its been/getting fixed)
