Getting rid of flood damage

Post by thedude »

What works best...Pierside? Shipyard? Repair ship (but not the one specifically for flooding)?

Thanks

I would think that a shipyard would repair it faster.  Though if flooding is over 50%, you won't want to send it to a shipyard more than a couple of hexes away as the ship might sink before it gets there.

Shipyard and keeping repair ships in port which further helps in repairing ships is generally the best way if the port is big enough for the ship you want to repair. There are also a whole bunch of other ships that can help in repair in port. Check the manual on ship repair.

I've read on the forums that ships with alot of flood and sys damage tend to sink before you get them to a shipyard.  One thing that seems to help is to do a pierside repair at a forward base to reduce flotation damage as much as you can and eliminate system damage completely.  This seems to keep ships on top of the water.

Make sure you get rid of light flood damage. If you only have major flooding its considered to be waterproof and you can sail them to a shipyard, just escort it and move at cruise to prevent any new flooding occuring.
sorry for the spelling . English is my main language , I just can't type . and i'm too lazy to edit :)

Lifer is correct. Get the damaged ship to a forward port ASAP and get the system damage repaired and the minor flotation damage as well. Once this damage is repaired you can move the ship to a base with a drydock. I have had several CVs damaged in the Coral Sea and put in to OZ port to fix the system and minor flotation damage. I have then got them back to PH and Seattle without a problem.

And remember, higher the sys damage, more probable is that ships sinks, since system damage hinders damage control. For example, before you take heavily damaged BB from PH to West Coast for repairs, try to be sure that all system damage and minor flooding is repaired. As Rob said, minor flooding means your ship is taking in water and this increases chances of sudden sinking a lot.

Now this statement (right or wrong) just seems plain silly .... Major flooding is BETTER that minor flooding ? If I'm the CO, I'd think I'd rather have a small hole than a large one to deal with ...... Just my opinion .......

The terms are actually Major Floatation Damage and Minor Floatation Damage. Minor is flooding and some "minor" damage that can be repaired by the crew without additional facilities. Major is them big-old holes in the hulls that require port/shipyard/repairships to fix.

In addition, having Major Float Damage does not mean it's not patched to keep the ship afloat. Most probably it's patched up but it's not as sturdy as the new ones. Therefore little holes can appear (Minor Float Damage). That's why they're saying the minor damage is more dangerous as it is volatile and needs controlling.

Major flotation damage also takes a lot longer to fix than minor flotation damage does; in my CG Saratoga took a torpedo and limped into Pearl Harbor with about 40 major and 20 minor flotation damage.  The minor damage was fixed fairly quickly, but the major damage was estimated to take over 100 days to repair.  South Dakota also took a torpedo hit and her 20 major flotation damage is going to take about 40 days to fix.
