Just bought this.. which patches

Post by htuna »

Hi, Just bought this and in the process of downloading... Will I also need the 1.03 and 1.04 patches? of is the download the latest version? If it isn't the latest version, is the 1.04 patch cumulative, so I would only need that?

thanks in advance..

Found another post where it said 1.04 was all you needed.. but should use 1.03 if you want to tweak files.. does this mean mods don't work with 1.04?

The game is still completely moddable; organization files, graphics, sounds, movement graphics, etc etc.

The only exceptions are the platoon**.obx and weapon.pdx files.

But then, all you have to do is email the platoon**.oob and weapon.pdt files to me for conversion.

Simple as that.

simple as that...yeppers.....easy as 123 ....I am sorry jason but still that is ignorant process....but each his own....if you read some of the post it does tell you how you can edit those files in an open text type file...there is a formula that you can use to get the correct character length for those particular files thereby bypassing the need to email for for conversion. There is many things you can do with the platoon files and weapons files. Adding specific units in the core file so therefore you can add to the overall order of battles. You can do this with every army in all 3 games. Also I believe if you dig enough you can find out how to a nationality that is not covered. I did add Brazil to my OOB. They did not have a large contingent but play a important role in the battle of the bulge. This is my opinion , Jason you guys do great work but like that old toothache that keeps comming up it is painful but still should be addressed. It is amazing that for example Forge of Freedom is totally moddible from Units to major upgrades with no encryption and there has not been any complaints. Same goes for the OOB's LOS and AI files for the Battleground Series. AGEOD is a great program to mod and the designers actually help you go through the various things to mod. Silent Hunter 3 and 4 same there. It just begs the old cliches is a PBEM game that much more important then the rest of the community that does mods for their own personal play?

Also think about the next upgrade, so the community can't change those 2 files they will change the character length again so any mods you have done will not be compatable with the new upgrade. If there is going to be that much of an upgrade they should go to a new engine and format that gets the same results.

Why are you at the CS series so different then the other titles of matrix? Why is your philosophy of game dynamics different then the others? I would think that as a policy all game titles would be the same, specifically from Matrix and not just one in the series of titles that is rigid in standards? If your policy is the golden rule then why is the other groups not picking up on that? Oh I forgot that is from the specific few users that whined about PBEM fairness.......

Matrix Games is the distributor.

There are many different groups creating the numerous titles that have no connection to each other but are brought together by Matrix Games. I have no clue what the War in the Pacific team is doing, nor do they know what I am doing. Heck, same goes for the TOAW series... or anything else.

How each of them decide to offer their games or the tools they provide is up to the developer.

But are you not just a user with input....basically a modder that is not a paid employee but just a consumer?

But are you not just a user with input

I would venture to say more a long time user whom was given the opportunity to partake in developing... and enjoying every moment of it.

I would love to see the game engine revamped to be able to handle larger maps, A more intelligent placement of troops in a DCG but again that is not being looked at because that requires a new engine and Matrix won't pay for a new engine. The modding community is freeware. The enahncements we make entice new players to purchase the older titles at a profit. The more free enahncements we do the more money matrix makes on sales thereby making thier P an L statement look better. Do you not think that Matrix is in it for the money at the least cost? HPS stuff is the same as the talonsoft's with a twist. Frankly I would love to see the Flames of War game completed before a modded version of an old title...modern wars....hmmmmmm think about new graphics to the same line of code that does yes no operations in an old engine....

The modding community is freeware.

Yes, they are. Unfortunately, the code isn't freeware and not available to be distributed. I don't see that happening anytime soon although I wish it would as I know of extremely talented people whom could give the engine a good work out, especially in particular to HAL. Regardless, there will be improvements coming to HAL in the future, will just take time, and will be provided to the community in the usual free UPDATES.

I was not talking the source code for the executable......the easily modifiable platoon and weapons file.....you can edit those to get around some of the intricities of the engine. That is why I think what you did was assanine to the community as a whole is all

I disagree.

The engine needs a serious overhaul, much of which cannot be glossed over with modded platoon and weapon files.

Otherwise, those that do platoon and weapon modding are quite content sending the files over for conversion.

Since you don't need the conversion (based on your other thread in the mods section) and I've never seen a file from you, why is this an issue for you? You can modify your game to your hearts content on your own accord.

One thing first off that I thought was a bummer was the screen flashing when moving around.. not sure I noticed this with my Talonsoft disk (might've played that in XP though). I can remedy it by making my display go to 16 color.. but it would be nice if you didn't have to change it every time before you start.

One good thing I noticed right off over the old Talonsoft was the music was 'listenable'... did that change, if so, that's one thing for the better..

Jason,I have sent you a couple of requests sdkfz 11 smoke generator being 1 and never got a response nor confirmation as to what was happening with it so I have guessed your (a user) process is flawed. Hence headstrong attitude.

All units will be considered and added to future UPDATES.

The smoke generator is slated for the 1.05 UPDATE.

Don't forget to add new units there.
