Leader Abilities

Post by Abnormalmind »

Hi,

It'd be "fun" to simulate the abilities of certain renown leaders, however nothing unbalancing, just some interesting flair. The mechanics found in Hearts of Iron III float around in my thoughts as a template. The officers have certain bonuses and negatives based on their historic persona. Maybe this could be considered if TOAW's chain of command/tree is adjusted in the future. If this idea has been put forth before, which I'm pretty sure it might have since I'm as original as a cardboard box, sorry!

Thanks,

Leadership, in the game, is the scope of the HQ's, and the player/AI.

Its one of the topics of the maintained wishlist. A Hierarchy of commands, to the best of my tired mind, is one of the wishes from the list.

I've seen in several games, where the specific HQ's have 'higher' supply, experience, and readiness over others. Probably not the best method of portraying command/leadership, but its the way the scenario designers had to work with.

Good post, tho +1 [;)]

It's on the wish list for sometime. I'm not sure if the wish list talks about them having a radius like the supply depots (which feels pretty hokey to me), but they're on the wish-list.

If they affect all troops under their command, then the full hierarchy capabilities need to be there first. Implementing that becomes painful because of all the additional UI that needs to be written to handle viewing the hierarchy, modifying it, etc. It also needs rules defined so that nobody can 'game' the system by putting eveyone under one leader without consequences. There have to be some 'interesting decisions' that the player has to make.

I'm heavily into RPGs, so it's definitely something that is on the list, more as Chrome than anything else, but Chrome is important. Besides, it will give people something else to argue about.
