Here's another way to $crew up; I dispatched a couple of destroyers from this TF to sweep the harbour of enemy PT boats before the transports went in. The transport has home town of Truk and despite setting an absolute stay order the destroyers decided otherwise and headed towards...Truk; leaving the transports behind to face the music [8|]

Nice going PzB , how are you finding AE from WitP ?

Escorting bombers has always been very hit and miss unless they fly from the same airfield i find.

Your subs are being very agressing and it looks to paying odd nicely .. grats

Any thoughts on long term plans after the DEI mop up ? as from april iirc you'll need to prep stuff as the japanese landing bonus dispears ( i think this bonus assumes all invasions are fully prepped for landing losses at least .. not post landing combat though afaik) .. i could of course be making this up but i dont have the manual handy right now.

Andys defending burma eh ? i have to say it looks like a dead loss to me from an allied POV but he is the land combat meister of AE so he should know what he's doing. This will be interesting to watch at the very least.

The new map is awesome and industry, production and all kinds of combat has been greatly improved.
Takes a while to get the hang of it, need to be a professor to understand it all.

Escorts were flying from the SAME base with an Air HQ present and escort target set "Palembang".
Twice in a row they're off to Singapore... [:(]

Subs are working great, am deeply worried about the future and US subs when they get radar and working torps!
Only hope is that there are so many US subs that it will require an obscene amount of micro management from Andy's part to sink my ships [;)]

Looks like Andy is inviting for a fight in Port Moresby, thinking about invading Cairns and causing as much consternation I can. It also depends on how long it will take to clean up on Luzon. If I have to dispatch 3-4 divisions worth of troops and another 600 guns to clean up it will be April-May before I'm ready for another major adventure. The question is then whether to bounce the locals out of Rangoon or prepare a better surprise.

I really would like to land at Madras, invade Ceylon and create lots of mischief up there.
Am a bit afraid of the ability of UK ship, completely different customer than the US Navy this early on.

Are they assigned to different HQs?? I wonder if they are escorting planes from the same HQ (command) while the one at Kuching is different. Just an idea.

That's possible; the bombers are Navy Nells while the fighters are Army Oscars that wants to escort Army bombers to Singapore instead.

It's curious that a direct order to escort to one destination is overruled by other priorities though - in the micro management cosmos of AE such decisions should be left to the CinC [;)]

Re. the escort: I think in one thread (forgot which one) it was claimed that optimum likelihood of escorts coming along is achieved by equal altitude settings of bombers and fighters.

We had superiority in men and quality but it was still a hard job.
Even with a shock attack we just got the necessary 3-1 odds today and now we need to rest and replenish our divisions.
- The CinC is looking forward to inspecting the city in a couple of weeks!-)

Andy promised a surprise today but it failed to materialize...hm wonder what that could be.
Took some precautions just in case.

Now we got a few alternatives;
1. Send most combat troops in Malaya to Luzon to finish this nut
2. Divide our troops and prepare to assault Java, move against Rangoon and reinforce troops on Luzon.

I may actually go for # 2 - doesn't matter if Luzon holds out a bit longer and we got important business to attend to.
Sending my reserve regiments that didn't take part in the fighting in Malaya to Truk, reinforcements for my Singapore adventure - would hate to go in an end up shorthanded.

Until now both sides have avoided any major catastrophes (except for those that were expected).
Andy knows that in order to win has has to avoid any major FUBAR's - me on the other side knows that I have to achieve something spectacular to win...

It's easy to FUBAR and it's dang difficult to achieve anything spectacular as Japan in AE [8|]
Think we have to be patient and carefully consider our next steps; but when the opportunities show themselves we have to
take them without hesitation.

Keeping the KB away from LBA is one particular FUBAR I will try to avoid - it may become necessary, but will keep those instances as few as possible. As of today I have rearmed the KB and in total we have some 500 ac on all our carriers together.

It got eaten by the matrix (forums that is), and my own lackidazical approach to things. In the heat of battle it would be quite normal for Army fighters to escort naval bombers.
The Army fighters have been stationed to protect the Borneo base while the naval bombers hunt enemy shipping and support the
amphibious landing on Sumatra.
