force supply draw button
I know this has been talked about, I'm confused and I wonder if someone has the consensus opinion of how this tricky button works.
The manual says units will draw more replacements if surrounding bases have more than two times supply.
Is this in fact so?
Keeping this in mind I keep some smaller bases around my important bases garrisoned with a BF. I try to build up air fields to reduce spoilage, and I push the little button that says "draw an extra 1000 supplies." The idea is I want to make sure the bases always have 1000 more supplies than twice its need. The base will always try to keep twice its need on its own. I want a buffer.
So, I'm observing how this works. I noticed weirdness all over the place, but I'll use the example of Rangoon.
My defense is at Pegu. My airfield and supply dump are at Rangoon. The two smaller bases to the northwest are garrisoned with BFs and burma Bns.
I ordered the two smaller NW bases to draw and extra 1000 supplies. (the idea is they are close to Rangoon and Pegu and will facilitate the drawing of replacements). I ordered Rangoon to draw an extra 10,000 supplies. And I ordered Pegu to draw an extra 5,000.
Instead, the smaller bases, who have supply requirement of 50 or so, have 7,000 supplies. Rangoon has over a hundred thousand and keeps drawing from somewhere.
The japanese are fighting it out in Pegu with my pitiful defenses and they don't have enough supplies. They are in the red.
In my mind the smaller bases should have 1,100 supplies-- the 50 they need, plus the automatic doubling up of another 50, plus my order to draw a buffer of a thousand more.
Rangoon should have about thirty thousand, Pegu should draw anything more than 90,000 from Rangoon. (The base supplying another base needs to have three times supply before it'll ship it out.
So what's up? Why is this so weird. Why won't it act as described in the manual?
In china I don't order draw supplies anywhere because it all seems to go to some random base I ordered to keep a thousand extra on hand and then suddenly Chungking is in the red.

but Rangoon is drawing supplies from somewhere. I was worried about the nightmare of running xAKLs into Rangoon until I discovered it will continue to draw supplies to well over three times its limit.... Maybe that's why I can't keep china out of the red.

it still doesn´t as the base where you want to draw supplies (no matter how many) keeps drawing until it will have soaked up everything on a whole continent. Example: you have 500 supplies, your demand is 500, want to have 1500. You click on the 1000 increase once and the supply demand then looks like this: 1500+
the routine though thinks you want to have infinite supplies and keeps drawing and drawing and drawing. A couple of days later it could look like this: 60.000 supplies at the base, supply demand still: 1500+ And no 1500+ doesn´t mean it is drawing 1500 each day. You can have tens of thousands supplies move in in a day. 1500 obviously is the supply demand you set and the plus probably means the routine is supposed to draw supplies (everything else doesn´t make much sense to me anyway). Problem seems to be that the routine doesn´t notice how much you want to have and overdraws supplies forever.
Don´t use this feature!
RE: force supply draw button
I'm not anymore. The game was started after patch two and first hotfix. I did the other hotfixes after game started.
RE: force supply draw button
If it doesn't work, then how to I get supplies to cities that are running low on supplies. Probably the most frustrating is Portsea, which is one hex from Melbourne - two by major road. Melbourne is awash in supplies, and they're drinking champagne and feeding filet mignon to the dingos. One hex away in Portsea, rations are limited to one potato a day per person - and that is about to be reduced.
It's been awhile, but it seemed that in WitP that supplies just automatically flowed to where they were needed. Portsea clearly needs supplies, but they're not flowing there automatically. Are they supposed to? If the draw supply is broken, how is Portsea to get supplies? Or San Luis Obispo right up the coast from Los Angeles?

First as to above:

great read
as game is now japan player need this to put supplies in base to repair airplane plant. airplane plant will not draw any supply to fix if not use. if use you as others say draw them from everywhere including other air plant bases. what i have to do is turn on all these so no supplies move anywhere and then ship by boat what i want where. this is stupid but it is how i have to do things to get them where i want. leaving all off does not work because there are some air plant bases not port hex so have to fill these bases first before turn everything on.

RE: force supply draw button
I have had some success in balancing the supply in Japan in my latest PBEM.
After realizing that Tokyo wanted all 2.5 million plus supply at start and not sharing with cities I wanted to expand industry I went ahead and set those cities in Japan only to 10,000 (the minimum they need to repair).
So far so good, everybody is repairing and supplies are distributed evenly. I plan to monitor the overall health every turn and then reset the supply needed to minimum (off) after each city has repaired. I may have to keep Osaka up at 10k since Tokyo still likes to horde supplies needed for the auto-convoys. It's a balancing act but it seems to be working this time. Good luck (think of it as a mini-game). [:D]
Remember, 10,000+. Don't take the request any higher than that or else things get strange(r). [8D]

Ya know? It never fails. I feel like the blonde that takes her car to the mechanic to fix a noise that the car refuses to make when the mechanic listens. Supplies have been dropping all over the map for weeks. I post the message above. Then I load hot patch 3 straight over official patch 2 and PRESTO! Supply is magically redistributed quite nicely. Whether intended to or not, the patch seems to have fixed my problem. Guess I'll have to see if I have the problem of continuing to draw supply well in excess of requested.

RE: force supply draw button
Bases will automatically draw what supply they need per day to keep the troops happy, build stuff, carry out operations etc. If you need more in a base then you can increase the level of supply it draws per day. Leaving it at a high level will as has been said draw all the supplies out of the continent at least to 9999999. It is a balancing act.

RE: force supply draw button
Still waiting on the answer: Can someone explain how the force supply button now works after patch II?
Example:
If a base has a required supply of 105, and you set the Supply Required button to 1000, it shows 1105 but, the next turn the base supply can be anything. I've seen bases go from 100 to 50,000 in a single turn after the Supply Required button is used, regardless of the amount of supply set! Is this working as designed?
There are several base supply levels required by the game for aircraft replacement/upgrades, factory expansion/repair, ship resupply, etc. yet there doesn't seem to be any method to get and/or keep the base supply at a specific supply level!

It happened at Hiroshima about 17 turns ago!
Now, can you answer the question?
RE: force supply draw button
Hiroshima/Kure is a port 9 and 10 af and is a major base with no spoilage limits. So it only has a requirement of 100 and what units are actually at the base? You say you increased the add supply to 1k and then next turn supply at base went from 100 to 50k, got a save before it shot up?
Each receiving base that is in range of a base that has excess supplies and needs supplies will get them.
1st. every base that needs 1x requirement gets 1x. So this is one big loop through all bases so as to get maximum coverage and that every base gets at least 1x previously this was 3x only. Sending base will not send any supplies that would dip into its own 3x requirement and if add supply is being used then sending base guards up to 4x.
2nd every base that can get 10x or some portion there of will get it. So this is another big loop to see if we can get bases up to at least 10x requirement. Sending base will not send any supplies that would dip into its own 10x requirement.
3rd. every base that is eligible for excess normally this is big major bases or bases with the highest spoilage limit previously there was no check before sending supplies to small bases. Sending base will not send any supplies that would dip into its own 10x requirement.
4th. One final big loop through all bases to resupply LCUs and whatever base the LCU is at is the only base it can draw supplies from previously there was no restriction. If LCU is in non-base hex or enemy then no restriction. Sending base will guard up to 20 supply points meaning if a unit can be supplied and base has it then unit gets it, previously base had to have above 3x.
In each big loop except for the 4th the amount that can be sent is modified by Prim HQ of base (just like witp) and if present adds an extra 25k to requirement and we check for max draw and we check spoilage limit at base receiving base.
How far a base can receive supplies is determined by tracing a supply cost path starting value used is 100 just like witp. There are three different ranges used throughout each week 89 which is very short range and happens 4 times a week, 49 which is medium range and happens twice a week and 10 which is long range which happens once per week. These values are the minimum required trace value from sending base to receiving base and the trace value must be equal to or greater than this to receive supplies so you may notice that some bases only get supplies 3 times or in some cases once per week.
Using the add supply button means first the base will try and get 1x requirement then during the 10x loop it will try and get 10x whatever is in that field so a base has 1000 normal requirement and I press the add supply to 1000 making new requirement of 2000 thus 1x + 10x = 2000 + 20000 = 22,000 that the base will try and get. You should never ever use the add supply on major bases as this will prevent supplies from being sent out if you understand what I mean.
Btw yes it is WAD.

First, thanks for the reply.
My game is patched to versions 1097 but, I'm not sure I'm seeing what you describe?
If you mouse over the supply required buttons, the first one says "Increase supply by 1000" and the second says "Increase supply by 25,0000", not 1x or 10x!
The following is a pic of the base Asahikawa (ID 224) it has 2685 supplies with a required supply of 1031, the required supply button has not been touched.

At the same base I've clicked the "Increase Required Supply Button by 1000", same turn.
Mousing over the second button now show supply still at 2685 and required supply now at 2031 (required supply 1031 + 1000).
