No events

Post by Uxbridge »

I just made a test removing all events from a scenario, save the resource waste event, just to see what would happen. It was marvellous. Just like a nice old boardgame. Turn after turn just went, the game being as stable as Photoshop.

Now to the questions and it's for Doomie, Anraz, Bleck or anybody elsa at WI who feels inclined to answer.

1. If one, purely hypothetically, were to remove all events, will this eventually lead to a crash, or is the only effect that a number of events, necessary to the flow of the historical game, will be absent?

2. If one makes a partial removal of an entire cluster of events, by removing a line in the scenario event_files.txt, can this cause conflicts or is each line in event_files.txt independent from all else?

1. It shouldn't lead to crash, it can just make the game boring as some of the AI switches are going to be turned off.

2. There are some event chains in the game where more than one country is participating, so for example if you remove events for Germany some of the events for other countries are not going to fire.

Good, I will try this. Thanks.

My only fear is that I will remove an event, only to find out that another event is looking for it, crashing the game as it can't be found. But I will have a go, nevertheless. While playing PBEM, it's very problematic having the Axis player deciding all the events (or sending mails all over the globe, solving minor issues).

If we have got two events, X and Y and if Y is dependable on X, then removing X will just won't Y fire. Shouldn't make the crash (the worst thing is to screw the gameplay).
I think that I've written a note in every event that is firing only if a choice has been made in other event.

We will try to test something for 1.80, but I can't promise anything right now.
