.. There are a couple of people who frankly seem insanely driven to try to convince everyone of their side (which makes no sense at all), but that's just the lunatic fringe you tend to find in any conversation these days. [:D]

Oh! Is that me? [8|]

Too bad. I still think Steam sucks so much even your mother could take some lessons.

Actually, I was referring to emobama's bizarre attempts to...well, do whatever he was attempting to do.

You don't even rate as a mildly interesting troll.

It usually takes 24-32 hours for them to get to your issue. If it's a steam issue, they deal with it, otherwise they forward you on to the game publisher's support.

I have used their CS. I bought a pack that had Fleet Command in it. The graphics would freak out after a minute or two of playing. I used steams support, and the next day they e-mailed me a link to a dual core optimizer for AMD, and it fixed my problem.

It took them several days to respond to my one and only request for help. They weren't helpful.

Not very good. They tend to leave it to the game manufacturers...who are not very helpful either...kind of "It's their fault" and then "No it's their fault"!

You know, I think Emobama believes that anybody who doesnt believe in steam or the "great and powerful" future of DD-only is a luddite hiding under blankets hoping those nasty DD games go away. I really do. Personally, as much as I hate the steaming pile of steam and its ilk, I know you sometimes cant get away from using that crap. I think a middle of the road approach is best..[/align]

I think people who do not believe in something that exists and cling to the past are fools. It exists, it is everywhere and there is no avoiding it. To do so only limits yourself and I think the vast number of people in this thread slapping hands and grabbing butts are either using downloadable digital media or will be using it soon.

They may not even realize they are doing it. [;)]

I am not sure if you are wearing glasses but I cannot see your ears. I usually am not one to judge but trolls ears are an odd fetish.

You may be an exception the the rule. Here is one of several threads along the line of Steam Customer Support Steam CS

EDIT: Here is a link that addresses the problem of needing to be online to play offline Offline
I read the rules of how to properly set up playing offline, but if a gamer was in between doing these items he could be left with games that won't play. I played off line last year when I bought a game, and it worked perfect. I can see both sides though. [;)]

I have no problem with intelligent dissent. A lot of the arguments against it in this thread are based on fear, inability to understand or by people who have already adopted the model for other things and our paranoid about this one particular use.

I can see the benefits and downside of downloadable media from both sides but it does not matter. It is not going away any time soon.

Posting on a forum counting coup in front of your buddies does not change reality.

It defaults to a folder within the steam folder,....and it lets you choose where to install steam, so yes they changed it.

I remember what you are talking about. It defaulted to a different folder than steam, on drive c before. You COULD change it back then,....I did it once,....but it was hard to find the option to change it,....and if you changed it AFTER you downloaded something you would have apps is two different locations,..which did cause a little bit of a mess with mods. Thankfully they changed it.

I think people who do not believe in something that exists and cling to the past are fools.

You seem to confuse the issue and the people discussing it here.

Sceptic (which means careful) people aren't fools. Then there are people who rather have had bad experiences using "new" services. With both groups, it doesn't deal with them dismissing the tech, as they're already using it (eg. DD from MatrixGames), but with Services/portals that either lack in the support department or in the convenience department (online activation/check), or with services that overdo in the "greedy"- or "A-hole"-department.

Example, I got MassEffect from D2D yesterday. BioWare put SecuroROM into the DigitalDownload version (really unnecessary) with patch 1.02, with an online check-module. It's a hassle. Also, one check should be sufficient, after I enter the serial number, but no, I have to register the number in their customer database, so that I can obtain the patch and a free expansion. And heaven knows what else is going to be transmitted during this check.
Last but not least, the patch README informs me that there have been problems removing SecuroROM from some customers' PCs, and that the drivers will be removed no matter what - even if the installation routine crashes, and even if it looks like they are still there. Um... mmmkay.
To top that, the patch readme informs me (FOR THE FIRST TIME, this is against European laws) that I can install the game on 5 unique machines only, and that I have to use the "SecuroROM revoke ability" to regain a used activation slot. Hmmm more hassle.

The game is great.... but this isn't really necessary with a DD. I'm not sure whether the retail version features that same level of unconvenience (it does have SecuroRom at least), the unpatched DD version surely doesn't have that. Whatsoever, Direct2Download DID NOT state this (online activation for a SP game and SecuroROM) on the product page.

The discussion here isn't just about "new tech", but mainly about less customer-friendly majors / services who know shyte about being honest (reg. features or the lack thereof) and being customer-friendly. Ppl's experience or (if you will) level of frustration may vary, but if you call critical/suspicious/careful people fools, just because some of their opinions may be the result of their experiences with some half-assed customer support, or other experiences, then you should look in the mirror.

Yeah my problem was really easy though,..so the first person that got my e-mail was probably able to copy and paste the answer instead of having to send it up the chain to a smarter monkey.
