force supply draw button
RE: force supply draw button
First you should run a turn, supply is only moved on turn resolution.

RE: force supply draw button
The add supply button is adding to the supply requirement, during resupply these values are multiplied by 1 x supply requirement then in the second round by 10 x supply requirement, in witp it was 3x period - was that on the screen. If you have too many bases with add supply then they are all competing for whatever excess supply is in range so some may get all what it wanted some may get half and some may get none so you are going to have to be more selective in which bases you choose to over supply and keeping in mind the frequencies of range, it might be that only some bases get resupplied once per week.

ORIGINAL: BigJ62
Using the add supply button means first the base will try and get 1x requirement then during the 10x loop it will try and get 10x whatever is in that field so a base has 1000 normal requirement and I press the add supply to 1000 making new requirement of 2000 thus 1x + 10x = 2000 + 20000 = 22,000 that the base will try and get. You should never ever use the add supply on major bases as this will prevent supplies from being sent out if you understand what I mean.
Btw yes it is WAD.
First, thanks for the reply.
My game is patched to versions 1097 but, I'm not sure I'm seeing what you describe?
If you mouse over the supply required buttons, the first one says "Increase supply by 1000" and the second says "Increase supply by 25,0000", not 1x or 10x!
The following is a pic of the base Asahikawa (ID 224) it has 2685 supplies with a required supply of 1031, the required supply button has not been touched.

This is the same base after one turn. Supply is now 8120, required supply is 2033.
Why did required supply change from 1031 to 2033, isn't (1033 x 1 + 1033 = 2067)?
How did supply go from 2685 to 8120, (supply 2685 + required supply 2033 = 4718)?

RE: force supply draw button
Supply require is 1033 + 1000 is 2033 then during resupply we try to send to base 1 x 2033 which apparently it got then during the 10 x loop it is 10 x 2033 is 20,330 which it was able to get some of but not all.

I never pressed the 10x supply button only the 1x so there should be no change during the 10x loop correct? (Required Supply 1033 + Additional Required Supply 1000 = 2033 ) Got it![:)]
Ok but, how did supply go from 2685 to 8120, (supply 2685 + required supply 2033 = 4718)?
RE: force supply draw button
read this again.
Each receiving base that is in range of a base that has excess supplies and needs supplies will get them.
1st. every base that needs 1x requirement gets 1x. So this is one big loop through all bases so as to get maximum coverage and that every base gets at least 1x previously this was 3x only. Sending base will not send any supplies that would dip into its own 3x requirement and if add supply is being used then sending base guards up to 4x.
2nd every base that can get 10x or some portion there of will get it. So this is another big loop to see if we can get bases up to at least 10x requirement. Sending base will not send any supplies that would dip into its own 10x requirement.
3rd. every base that is eligible for excess normally this is big major bases or bases with the highest spoilage limit previously there was no check before sending supplies to small bases. Sending base will not send any supplies that would dip into its own 10x requirement.
4th. One final big loop through all bases to resupply LCUs and whatever base the LCU is at is the only base it can draw supplies from previously there was no restriction. If LCU is in non-base hex or enemy then no restriction. Sending base will guard up to 20 supply points meaning if a unit can be supplied and base has it then unit gets it, previously base had to have above 3x.
In each big loop except for the 4th the amount that can be sent is modified by Prim HQ of base (just like witp) and if present adds an extra 25k to requirement and we check for max draw and we check spoilage limit at base receiving base.
How far a base can receive supplies is determined by tracing a supply cost path starting value used is 100 just like witp. There are three different ranges used throughout each week 89 which is very short range and happens 4 times a week, 49 which is medium range and happens twice a week and 10 which is long range which happens once per week. These values are the minimum required trace value from sending base to receiving base and the trace value must be equal to or greater than this to receive supplies so you may notice that some bases only get supplies 3 times or in some cases once per week.
Why? The base had the same supply level and the same required supply for several turns, I only requested 1000 extra supply, why would it try to get 10x that amount? [&:]
Is there any way to get a base to try to keep a specific supply level, let's say I need 10K level for factory repair?
RE: force supply draw button
If the bases normal requirement is at least 1000 then you don't need to use the add supply feature. As to how the add supply feature works it was a team decision. In witp if you needed 1k you got 3k - why?

RE: force supply draw button
A little off topic to supply buttons but maybe I can get an answer.
Sian for a month has been sitting with lots of troops, Red Army HQ and needs supply bit will not go over 20 in base preventing a buildup of base. The troops are even under supplied. Other bases beyond Sian are getting supply (except for Yenan) even up to 10K down in south for offensive. Chungking sits routinely at its 25K or so with some industry expansion.
Why can't I get Sian more supply? I have even tried to bump up add buttons by 1000+ or more.
Thanks for any help
Pat

Sorry but, your wrong, you need 10K at base to upgrade or repair a factory, or 20K to upgrade aircraft, there are all sorts of supply requirements above 1000. In WITP, I never had an issue with keeping supply at certain levels, which is something I can't seem to do in AE!

RE: force supply draw button
I've spent some time playing with the request supply feature, and after a bit of a learning curve it's working great (for me at least). I have virtually every air and engine factory on the Japanese home islands expanding simultaneously with a stable 10k+ or 20k+ supply level.
The key thing for me, that took me a bit to figure out, was how the "requested" supply level feeds into the actual supply the base draws. The trick was finally understanding that requesting 1,000 supply is really saying try to get 10,000 supply. In-game you don't get any hints this is happening.
BigJ62 explains the 10x desired target, but it's easy to miss (or forget in game) how critical this is in a network of bases. All it takes is one place where you say, hey I want to stockpile 25K here, let's click the requested supply up to +25K. Suddenly that base is trying to hog a quarter of a million supply (25,000 "requested" becomes 250,000 desired target), and all your other troops go hungry!

I can't tell by looking at one picture and you can forget about Chungking because a Prim HQ is at that base which is an automatic +25k to supply require, is nobody reading what I write. What probably is happening is that sian is getting some supply but is being used up by the units there as fast as you get it.

There is no 10x supply button.
Both the "add 1K button" and "set to 25K buttons" are doing the same thing, just in different increments. Although I don't know why one would ever use the set to 25K button, "there be dragons".
I have not had any problems getting reasonable supply levels by using an overage of 1K or 2K.

It's tuff to read rules that aren't documented and buttons/text that say one thing but,do something else![8|]
RE: force supply draw button
BigJ62 Lol Yes I do read and understand Chungking wants 25K plus supply. But other cities beyond Sian are getting supply (4-6K) in cities. Only maybe half the units of Sian though.
Could I march out the units and supply increase in Sian? Meaning units not in cities don't get the extra supply when the 2nd and 3rd scans start? I would like to at least finish a building project started.
Also does this lack of supply effect Sian's industry at all? I notice quite a stockpile of resources there.
Thanks
Pat

RE: force supply draw button
even if the "draw 1000" means "draw 10.000" then it´s still not working. If I have a base with 300 supplies and press the "draw 1000" once (which means 10.000? [&:]) then I will still end up sucking up the supplies of a whole continent as it doesn´t stop at 10.300 either. As soon as you click on this feature you get a + behind the supply request and this means the routine won´t ever stop drawing supplies. If there are supplies to draw you will end up with hundreds of thousands supplies within a couple of days. And you only wanted 1300...
RE: force supply draw button
Moving the units out will increase their odds of getting supply from somewhere else but that depends on the order (base ID) that loops go through first. In my game China does not have much supply and generates very little each turn, there is not enough supply in China to supply every base and unit.
Post a save in tech support and I'll look but I don't think I can do much else.

This is not the case in my games, I set up a test at Ceylon and gave Colombo 500k then set Trincomalee to +1k and after 1 turn it shot up to 15k+ and after several more turns it has stayed 15k+. There has to be a need based on requirement before supplies will go there. If the base already has 10x its supply requirement then it does not have a need.

How does it come then that I ended up in my games in some rotten jungle base with some 100k supplies when I use the +1000 once and the base´s requirement was something like 500? Have given up on using this feature since then as it just didn´t make any sense to me and have ever thought since then it´s seriously broken.
Would be cool to really know how it works as in the game if you hover over the button it says something like "increase supply requirement by 1000" (from top of my head). So with my limited English language skill this means to me that if the supply requirement is for example 500 and I once click on "increase supply requirement by 1000" then this feature should draw supplies until 1500 is reached but not until some magic number (that is a multiplier of the number of banana trees and coconuts on the beach) is reached. [&:]
When it´s working as designed then for sure the info you get when hovering over the increase button is wrong. Would be the same if I click on the "draw one pilot button" and then a routine starts that multiplies the possible trained pilots of the USAAF in 42 with the already lost pilots minus the average naval bomb skill divided by the average kills of the AVG, which then ends up in drawing 4.8 pilots while I only wanted to draw O N E pilot. But when I click on the "draw one pilot" button, one pilot is drawn into my squadron, so this seems to match the info I get when hovering over the button.
