Sea battles and German navy

Post by Tordenskiold »

I play the Allies with patch 1.7.
Both now and earlier I have been wondering about the rather strange sea battles. There is no message about the sinking of ships even thoug the whole unit roster (not sure about the word) turns red. Would it not be convenient that one was informed that the enemy ship was actually sunked?

In adition it seem that Germany waste their surface ships in battles with overwhelming allied forces. I use every available group of ships and have sinked a large number of both light and heavy German cruisers sailing alone. Is it an idea to make the AI a little bit more cautious and don't waste the Axis navies?

The AI does not play the German Fleet well, but it is difficult to play this out-numbered force well.  I agree that the AI needs to learn the concept of a "fleet in being", and to only venture its surface ships on a worthwhile mission, but the German naval command in the actual conflict had problems too.

With regard to reporting, if you press "Next" rather than "Auto" you can see more details, but I usually check the "Countries" screen, which is available on a game restart, to see the actual numbers available.

The naval aspect of this game is at best simplistic, at worst infantile. Anybody can dominate the seas with any of the major powers against the AI. I, playing as Germany, have dominated the seas in each game I have played with little or no difficulties. Just group your entire navy into one or two groups, use air power to soften the enemy fleets first and then deploy your entire navy together...always togehter. Never fails.
No problem Chief!
