One point I have to make (as like many of the USN , I've had the "joy" of "humanitarian aid " to that God forgotten island. Although they've just had a tremendous "urban renewal" project started by the earthquake , the spectre of disease is a LOT more dangerous. Talk about your ultimate malarial zone.

I had the privilege of being part of the 10th MTN in Haiti. The conditions there in Cite Soleil would make even a hardened person ill, the living conditions below subsistence. The Presidential Palace and US Embassy were some of the better designed buildings and looked like they were collapsed. One can only pray that aid arrives quickly so that something can be salvaged. Open sewers and a host of insects could make this a disaster on par with any.
I heard on CNN that many of the concrete buildings were built without rebar or any other common strengthening methods like that. True? If so, no wonder they pancaked so badly.

You sure this isn't some (wink wink) crop circles shenanigans?

No - they're a known phenomenon. Just rare.

Discussion Question

I was watching a show on the Me262 last night. I thought it was very biased and not very accurate. They went on and on and said Germany could have won the war with the thing. I will get to the question in a second.

1. The first Me262 unit was formed around April of 44 as a test unit and went opeartional sometime in the early summer.
2. The first Gloster Meteor Squadron was formed in June or July of 44.

If they had to I think the RAF would have used the Meteor against the 262. AS it was they did not need to. Do you agree or disagree and if so why?

For what we are about to receive, may we be truly thankful.

I don't know enough on the topic to have an informed opinion, but I don't believe Germany's industry still had the capacity to produce in the meaningful numbers it would have taken to make a difference.

Germany's industry was still fine in 44. They made more stuff than they had the prior years combined if I recall the Speer book correctly. Perhaps that was just tanks.

Poor Haiti is a ****hole. That's really just a matter of fact as well. Tons of churches in our area are involved down there with humanitarian aid and such. It really is a pitiable place. God bless those poor folk right now.

Well, we can agree on this. They're going to need some divine intervention right about now.

It doesn't matter how many airframes you can build if your turbine blades are made out of cheese... Even building more engines is only papering over the cracks if you have to change the damn things every two minutes.

The Meteor may not have been quite as good as the 262 (it seems that a lot of historians agree on that) but the engines were at least a great deal more reliable.

IIRC, the RAF used Tempest squadron to hunt Me262 at landing (see Pierre Closterman"le Grand Cirque") and had quit some success.
Closterman told that RAF engineers said all HQ and Wing commanders that Me262 could NOT fly with only one reactor engine; and Closterman to add that this was crap...
It also seems some P-51 of late version managed to shoot Me262, but i think it was after a long dive, catching them by surprise.
