Betties are.
ORIGINAL: Mynok

Definitely do not have as many army bombers as before, and the planes are now worse.

Actually I've not found anything Japanese to be very good at all at airfield suppression. I generally prefer to sweep the fighter cover away then rely on CAP for the invasion fleet.

Disaster..8 torps against an AM! Half the torpedoes carried and I-153 now has to return to port.
Can't you put these boats to ignore targets of chiken $hit size? [8|]

Sub attack near Colombo at 29,48

Japanese Ships
SS I-153

Allied Ships
AM Cairns, Torpedo hits 1, on fire, heavy damage
AM Ipswitch

SS I-153 launches 8 torpedoes at AM Cairns
I-153 bottoming out ....

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

this sub class has a wrong db entry which gives them 8 fwd torpedo tubes, hence launching super salvoes. Take what you get, those are your most dangerous subs as no other sub in the game can fire 8 torps at once. 6 would be max. Don´t want to see those bug-subs firing on high value ships.

Possibly so, but after sailing such a long way it's frustrating to see your subs turn about after sinking 2
rowing boats.... [:'(]

Looks like we're in complete control of airspace over Java - should be possible to put 150 fighters in the air and provide a heavy CAP over any invasion TF. Plan is to hold the carriers well back and out of range.

36000 troops loaded for Port Moresby.
Not sure Andy can do much about it - the lucky torp hit maybe...but if he doesn't send in the full carrier fleet the 23k enemy troops will be trapped soon!

Is it worth defending PM at such a cost and won't Australia be left wide open for attack?

Need to rest our Bataan troops another day or two, still 75 fatigue in most combat units.
That's quite extreme...I would expect high levels of disruption when performing amph landings, but experienced troops should be able to fight more than one engagement before having to rest 4 days.

Things have been set in motion; Port Moresby is about to be invaded, Rangoon is liberated and Java is also on the list.

Java Invasion

Historically we are only 12 days ahead of schedule in Java, somewhat bettwe with Port Moresby.
The troops we are bringing to the party are also similar to what happened in WWII: 2 divisions and 2 regiments

"The Japanese forces were split into two groups: the Eastern Force, with its headquarters at Jolo Island in the Sulu Archipelago, included the 48th Division and the 56th Regimental Group. The Western Force, based at Cam Ranh Bay, French Indochina included the 2nd Division and the 230th Regiment (detached from the 38th Division)."

Why did you pick Semarang? What were you looking for in an invasion site?

Soerabaja and Batavia on each flank holds 20-30k troops and I don't want to get bogged down in either end.
Semarang is lightly defended and holds a size 5 port and airfields.

- It's also possible to split Java in 2 right away and then choose which half to occupy first.
If you start pushing in one end you will end up with a stack of enemy troops on the opposite side of the island unless you
mount 2 invasions and I see no good reasons for doing that.

Finally; If Andy has joined his US carriers with the British he has the potential to strike hard - as it is now he will have to put his head a bit to far into the area dominated by our LBA as our carriers are kept back from the straits.

Things went according to plan - we gutted 40 enemy ac in the air for no losses of our own in Java.
In all 51 Allied and 11 Japanese (ops losses and flak) were lost today.

Java and Port Moresby have been invaded and we have not suffered heavy casualties.
Tomorrow we attack on Bataan, Cebu and Semarang - need to finish unloading at PM.

Fatigue is still as high as 70 for our large LCU's on Bataan, but will try as I think defenders are low or out of supplies.
All we need is a 2-1 odds and we can close this chapter.

Collage of todays main events

You can see which troops Andy has put into PM!
The question is; should the Allied player defend PM with vigor unless he plans to send his carriers in support?
- The gain is to tie up the Jap fleet for a few weeks; the cost is the loss of all troops committed.

I see that you have part of the 15th division at PM. Is this a reinforcement or did you pull it out of China. (I too lazy to look it up. [:'(] )

It has been released from China...one of the "heavy" regiments with lots of equipment.
The invasion took time to put together because I had to scrounge enough troops and didn't want to come short handed.

With Bataan, Phillipines about to fall and Rangoon and Port Moresby out of the equation we suddenly have a wealth of available troops.
Going to build a powerful barrier against the US advance in the Solomons / New Guinea - they shouldn't be able to get anywere there until mid 43 or so.

Bataan falls!

Post by PzB74 »

Bataan falls!! 80000 men begins their prolonged vacation in the land of the Rising Sun.
Samereng also falls and we are ready to assault Java and Port Moresby.

We now have 2-1 lead in points.

Our troops in Bataan need some R&R - think the next month will be spent reorganizing, resting and completing the
capture of Java, Timor, Abon etc. In late March I then hope to initiate Phase II [8D] - That will be fun!

See that I sent a shipping engineer unit to PM instead of a combat engineer unit [8|]

Port Moresby falls!

Post by PzB74 »

Got what we came for today as Port Moresby was more or less overrun! [8D]
Now it's mostly Java and some islands in the DEI and PI's that requires mopping up.
- Have plenty troops to spare for these tasks so hopefully the job can be done within a month.

Soon we can start moving fuel, oil and resources from the newly aquired territories.

What do you plan to leave at PM for defense? I assume you'll base your LBA on the back side rather than PM? With the pretty solid AF potential around Lae plus at Buna, a good air HQ at Lae would provide pretty formidable defenses.

Yep, I'm building bases in depth - Lea, Manus, Rabaul, Kavieng.
PM will hold "expendable troops" that have to be rotated every now and then.
- Just as Bangkok and Rangoon PM will become a flak trap - a dozen AA units will be shipped in and the Army Air Force will be given responsibility to protect the base. 42 Oscar Ic's are on their way.

Quiet turn - sweeps and bombing missions over Java.
As soon as the KB was spotted several convoys headed out from the West Coast.

I'm busy scrounging garrison and smaller LCU's for the newly conquered territories.
Need to build up supply and fuel reserves in the different parts of the occupied territories;
Truk - Rabaul and Rangoon - Singapore mainly.

The question is whether the KB should sortie before we're ready for Phase II.
- We can try to interdict a few US convoys or merely stay in port, repair damage and stand at readiness.
