Gah! I forgot about Distant Worlds. I'd say I'm still anticipating Elemental even more, but DW is a close second at this point.

The game which will define a new standard for good AI in wargames.
The game with a great and easy to use editor. The editor will of course allow for extansive tweaking and modifications of the AI.
So did you have any actual particular game in mind? Or is this simply what your hypothetical game would have, if it exists?
Unfortunatley, there is no particular game which fits this criteria, so this is the hypothetical game that I most want to see in 2010.
History began July 4th, 1776. Anything before that was a mistake.

- Victoria 2
- Axis and Allies 1940 Europe (not a vid game but I have played the new Pacific version quite a bit already and I can't wait to combine the two boards)

1) Battles from the Bulge
2) Field of Glory expansion
3) Theatre of War 2 - Kursk
Interestingly, all of these are built upon existing games. I really enjoyed Panther's Arnhem and Ageaen games and know the Bulge one will be even better. I never thought I'd bother trying TOW2, but the Centauro add-on gave it a major boost IMHO, and I can just about deal with pausable realtime [:)]. I've been hooked on FoG since it came out, since I've been really waiting for a decent ancients slugfest and this one just keeps getting better.

Well some of these have been mentioned, but they bear repeating:
1. Panzer Command Volume III
2. Combined Arms (formerly Battlefields I think)
3. War in the East
4. World in Flames
I'm curoius about Battle of the Bulge, I've looked at COTA and the demo for the earlier game, but I'm not convinced I would enjoy that type of map interface. I think maybe I'm "hex-centric".

Well Rick, we'll be putting out a demo for BFTB. So you can try before you buy.

I'm going to also say "Field of Glory" expansions. This is the best game I have bought in years.

Have you tried the open beta? I am really disappointed with the game based on what I have seen so far.

[&:] This is the only forum that I use my real name. I use Brigz on most others. I did use my real name on the old Mad Cow Steakhouse forum. My name is listed as a playtester in the rulebook of Ancient Battles Deluxe. I also have designed a few Vassal modules. Been playing and communicating with other gamers and game companies for a very, very long time. Other than that...there are a lot of David Briggs' out there.ORIGINAL: Punk Reaper

RE: Ok What game are we looking forward to most in 2010?
My game purchases didn't go to plan in 2009. If I recall I posted a lengthy list of boardgames I was going to buy, many from the stable of Lock n' Load Publishing.
I went ahead with my first, being LnL's Totensonntag game of the Western Desert. This was a re-print, so when it arrived with some counter errata that wasn't picked up before its second print run, it cooled me completely from buying any other LnL games for the year. My most aniticipated title - LnL's Lock n' Load Noville Bastogne is still on the shelf of my gaming shop as a result. Yet, I know that LnL is busy as I write planning, proofing and releasing board games with mounted components, so if they can keep their errata down, I'm still in for a try.
In 2010 my purchases are planned to be:
PC - LnL's Lock n' Load Stalingrad (Mark Walker has posted that only one more scenario remains to be tested before release).
PC - Panther's Bulge (a possibility only now as its production has taken so long to bring to fruition. I will likely buy it for the hype it will develop but is it old hat without being born?).
PC - SSG's Across the Dneipr with bonus Sicily Campaign.
Board - Dan Verssen's Phantom Leader (solitaire action in this successor to Hornet Leader).
Board - Dan Verssen's Down in Flames Lock On (jet air to air) and Guns Blazing (new installment in the WW2 air to air series).
I've already kicked the year off by buying GMT's Deluxe Twilight Struggle game of the Cold War. Its mounted map board and almost euro quality components are just superb. Some card errata is being fixed by replacement by GMT.
Z-Man Games is another board game company that I will always keep my eye on now too for fantastic gameplay and components. The equally brilliant Day's of Wonder may release some board game surpirses in 2010 as well.
And though I own a number of Grigsby 2by3 PC games but never been able to get through their interface rule books fully, I will likely be a sucker and buy their PC East Front title hopefully due this year too. Hard to pass up the subject matter but that like almost everything, will wait on my fellow gamer's reviews.
As for 2009, my hard drive was very silent, if not still - in terms of game play. The dismally disappointing Operation Barbarossa was a significant catalyst for that - as I suppose too was a busier life.
But if the relaxation is there in terms of a game's elegant design, I'll still be one to sit down for a few hours and immerse myself in it.
The question is, will 2010 produce any such gems or like Personal Computer sales in general, will I just be happy to sit back with what I have and not see the need to shell out any more cash?

2nd would be That Walker game that's been in production for like 5 years now I think. It's the one that looks a bit like Squad Leader with the units it uses. Been so long I forgot the name of it.
What game is this?
