RE: Port Moresby falls!

Post by PzB74 »

Ok Cebu falls and things are on the move again!
Troops in Luzon need many weeks of R&R to recover from their fight on Bataan.

In Burma we're moving north of Rangoon to capture the oil fields and refinery, no sign of enemy troops.
Getting ready to move on Ambon - Timor. May also land some troops on the northern tip of Java to prevent troops from Batavia
to fall back.

The oil rich base north of Palembang also requires attention, the small unit sent there isn't up to the task
and bombers and paras will help it out while it's sister unit is enroute. Within a week all of Sumatra should be secured.

In the Central Pacific I'm keen on a venture to secure Baker island - holds size 2 port and airfield.
Why don't squeeze Andy a little here as well, no way he'll show up with the KB around [8D]

RE: Port Moresby falls!

We invaded Horn Island today (which is actually an atoll that triggerd a shock attack) on the northern
tip of Australia just east of Port Moresby. Until the Allies get strong enough we can mine this island and prevent ships / subs from trespassing.

Now moving troops back from Port Moresby to Truk for re-assignment.
Both PM and Rangoon are getting operational.

In China High Command is annoyed; someone have released numerous construction and AA units from Kwantung Army! [8|]
- There's a building fervour in the Empire these days!-)

A few notes; when loading transports / amphibious TF's it's possible to select whether to load supplies.
Problem is that a TF with a capacity for 50k supplies will vacum clean the port for supplies in no time.
- So I have to create a separate TF and order it to load supplies and merge with the main TF.

Quite annoying, maybe it should be possible to indicate how many supplies you wish to load?

I'm going to start moving fuel and oil - firstly from Palembang to Singapore and then to the Home Islands.
Read on the industry thread in the war room and it was a good tip to use the small tankers to ferry fuel and oil from Borneo / Sumatra to Singapore and then load it all onto the large tankers there and ship to Home Islands.

Standard operating procedure for me in Witp. Should work fine in AE too. Still seeing it necessary to convert those Aden (?) class xAKs to tankers to keep up though. Those home islands are a needy bunch! [:D]

Loading Amphib TF - After you form the TF and BEFORE you select the troops, there is button in the bottom left of the window to select "Load Troops only." Click it BEFORE you select the troops, not afterward. I learned that one the hard way. [:(]

KB - I don't know if you follow either Q-Balls and/or Mike Solli's AARs, but a few days ago (real world time) they was a discussion about taking the pilots out of the restricted LBA in the Home Islands and placing them in "Reserve" command. After a few days, they can be added to your existing daitai/sentai/chutai. It takes some micro-management, but I would make the "Hammer of Thor" as nasty as I could and keep it hidden. [:D]

Cleared a lot of mines on Bataan...more awaits in Rangoon and PM, quite a chore!

Can you convert AK's to tankers? Didn't know thaT! [:)]
I'm familiar with the load only troops button, the challenge is when I need e.g. 2000 supplies and my TF has capacity
for 35000...then I either have to start loading those 35000 or not load supplies at all and create a separate TF for this purpose [:(]

I can't seem to find a single Jap coastal defense unit in this game...In stock WitP there were quite a few actually.
Can anyone tell me what happened to em and what I should use as coastal artillery [&:]

Java

A full division is held in reserve at Singapore to support the invasion if necessary.
For now we're just mopping up what we can - ultimately there will be a siege of the remaining Allied stronghold.

Also putting together an Ambon invasion TF but left troops on the ships to long, 90 disruption when I checked [8|]
...boy those guys must be seasick!

Reinforcement will be coming in from the Philippines soon - just another 200 bases and dots to mop up!

You start the war with 17 Std-C xAKs that can convert to TK in Jun 42. The Std-A, B, C, D & E can all do this. The rest come later in the war.

Why bother with Akyab? It's well-nigh impossible to hold once he determines to isolate it.

Hm, it's good to have a reserve of ships that can be converted to tankers.
Moving fuel by cargo ships is also more efficient than I thought. Will set up convoys from DEI to Truk - Rabaul made up of AK's carrying fuel.

Lots of bases in China have yellow and red exclamation markers - moving a large supply convoy to Port Arthur and Shanghai.
Guess it's my offensives and expansion of industries in Harbin that is the cause.

If I invade Akyab Al might think I will invade India again, good to keep him on his legs shuffling troops all over the place [;)]

Down for the count with the novo virus [:(]
4 pounds less in 24 hours...starting to feel slightly better now.

Troops have landed unopposed on the northern tip of Java to assist with the capture of Batavia.
Prepping the 6th Guards Division if assistance is needed. The next month will be spent mopping up the DEI
and fortifying our gains. Troops in Manila are having some much needed R&R before Phase II.

Darwin looks very lightly defended, tempting to grab it together with Timor.
Don't need a lot of troops to hold these bases but Andy will have to spread thin.

The KB has been topped with ac and pilots - one thing I can promise is that we're not going to use this force in a ground
support role and it will stay far away from enemy LBA! The Juny has been accelerated and the High Command promise that she will be ready for Phase II in the beginning of April. Junyo and other second rate carriers are more expendable.

Post by Sheytan »

I would. But you can actually have your cake and eat it here as the allies. Everything is bieng funneled in this direction anyway. The DB SQDRNs that appear in AUS and the Warhawks will also be thrown into the fray, they are there, it is a easy transit to PM/Rabaul.

Personally I would have made the tripwire Rabaul, and attempted to insulate PM so it had the ability to function as a rear area. Be advised, units are very mobile now compared to WITP. So it is quite possible to fight a tactical battle in New Guinea.

All of this of course would be influenced by a IJN players course of action post PH. Clearly if the KB is concentrated and in the AO then all bets are off.
ORIGINAL: PzB

Things went according to plan - we gutted 40 enemy ac in the air for no losses of our own in Java.
In all 51 Allied and 11 Japanese (ops losses and flak) were lost today.

Java and Port Moresby have been invaded and we have not suffered heavy casualties.
Tomorrow we attack on Bataan, Cebu and Semarang - need to finish unloading at PM.

Fatigue is still as high as 70 for our large LCU's on Bataan, but will try as I think defenders are low or out of supplies.
All we need is a 2-1 odds and we can close this chapter.

Collage of todays main events

You can see which troops Andy has put into PM!
The question is; should the Allied player defend PM with vigor unless he plans to send his carriers in support?
- The gain is to tie up the Jap fleet for a few weeks; the cost is the loss of all troops committed.

Hm, Andy tells me that Jap base force units upgrade with ca 24 coastal guns in February 1943!!! [X(]
That means, maybe expect for Wake, that I'll be without coastal defences for a full year [:(]

Kereguelen, were are you?

Watching Battle 360 while playing AE is perfect [:)]
http://www.history.com/content/battle_360

Andy is gathering as many of his units on Java in the...mountainous base (nr 5 from the northern tip).
Some 30+ by now. Guess we need to bring in a large sledge hammer here as well. The troops resting in Manila
will be assigned the task if required. Maybe our 2.5 divisions worth of troops will be enough?

Trying to upgrade as many of the warships as possible when the upgrades become available.
Mostl DMS, DD and CL for now.
