No mines in Tokyo? Why?

Post by findmeifyoucan »

How come I cannot load mines in Tokyo or very few of them? How can I get more mines for my minelayers?

Mines are produced 'x' amount per month for each type. Check your device pool for the type of mine your minelayer uses.

If you have enough mines in the pool then they will load automatically if you form a minelaying mission and add the minelayer.

If you don't have enough of the mines that you need then you will have to wait until enough are produced.

Is there anyway to increase the production of these mines or do my 20 or so Minelayers have to sit in Tokyo and do nothing and wait?

also, remember that they have to be in the right type of TF.
If you have the four japanese minelaying subs, for example (i 121-i 124), they will only load mines if the are on a sub minelaying mission/TF.

yes, I know. Just seems silly that I can load almost unlimited mines on subs but next to nothing when it comes to actual mine laying surface ships.

Not really, it's a combination of capacity and pool size. One minelayer probably carries as many mines as 7-12 subs. Accordingly it might *seem* like there are more sub mines, but the reality is it just takes more sub missions to deplete the pool (although I succeeded in doing that in Manila)

Worth remembering also that  afew IJN subs can carry a full complement of mines without interfering with their normal load of fish.  Anyone out there know which boats these are?

There seems to have been a conscious decision made by the AE designers to limit the availability of mines for both sides to tone down the impression of playing "Minefields in the Pacific".

I can understand why they did it.  In UV it was sometimes a question of who could build the biggest and most impressive minefield...

I understand why they did it too.

I just wish they would have done it better.

they used to be I-120 - I-124 in WITP, not 100% sure it´s the same in AE but I guess so.

there has been an overflow in WITP though (and I guess it would be the same in UV). If you put more than 25.000 (something like that) into a base then the minefield was gone and didn´t show up before it dropped under this number again. And with the possibility to lay a couple of thousand mines each turn (with two MLE disbanded in port) you could reach this limit within more or less a week. Not realistic but often seen in the game (and I did it too as the 20.000 mines then resulted in 5 mine hits). Now you have 200 mines at a base and you kill at least as many ships with them as you did in WITP with 20.000. [:D]

Of course there were those times when something got loopsided and you´ve sunk an armada with your minefield. Usually, they were more or less useless, no matter how many there were. I´ve invaded uncountable places with thousands of mines when I didn´t lose a single ship to mines in the progress (in WITP)

it´s definetely better now (the number of mines), even if the number of ships sunk due to mines seem to be not that much different. Not saying it´s wrong, before someone shouts me down again.

I noticed in AE subs visiting enemy bases are always hitting the mines - is that by design?

Actually, I think so. In one game I tried entering Singapore with a sub and got blown to bits by mines. So basically my rule is if I know the Allies have mines layed in a port I just don't go there with subs. Just way too dangerous.

I like the little red dots they have added though so that you know where you have managed to plant a successful mine. Too bad I don't know how many mines are planted there. :-(
