this good in what regard? AA? The 1.1 seems to have real reputation if it gets a that high AA value. [&:] What AA value have the 40mm bofors? ASW value of 2 isn´t a killer so I wouldn´t call that real good.

Notice that is has 8 5in/38 DP guns. Some of them will be removed during upgrades.

Porter's are DD Flotilla Leaders.

Keep them in SCTF's.

Interesting, the wiki entry states they should be on MK 22 mounts and not be DP guns, surface action only.

This site also says they were initially single-purpose mounts, but two were later replaced with dual purpose twin mounts, one of the others was replaced with a single DP mount, and the fourth with a 40mm mount:

Also the wiki shows no depth charge launchers in the original configuration,

Both observations are consistent with other resources.

As built, the Porters did not have the 5/38 dual purpose mount. It was only good for surface fire. That accounts for a whole lot of the 320 AA rating. During the war, they tried to correct that, but had to reduce the number of barrels available to five 5/38 to do so. About the only way to support four 5/38 twin mounts on a Porter hull would have been to strip everything else off of her - that is a lot of top weight for a tin can. The later Sumner's had a problem with the forward hull stresses because of the twin mounts forward, and they displaced some 400-500 tons more than the Porters. If you really want to be froggy, try recasting them as true DD squadron leaders with more tonnage and that same weapons suite. It might make your opponent unhappy, though.

[&o] Yeah , use them as they were intended. They were very usefull for night combat. But make sure that they either have aircover or good AAA support. Early Porters had only 1.1's and 50 cal for AAA. Very, very weak.

Porters guns are the 5"/38 "SP" EBR which is supposed to represent the Single Purpose version, on the Mk22 mount. There is a typo in the Device file. Device 1627 points to Type = 17-DP Gun. It should point to Type = 18-Naval Gun.

What about the DC racks? Should they actually be there before the first upgrade?

Some of them did. Selfridge, fx, was put on convoy duty on Jan. 20, and rolled DCs on a sub contact on Jan. 30, on her return from Canton Island. She had been on continuous patrol and screening duty since Dec. 7, with no down time, so the racks were likely there on opening day.

I truly wish I could say yes or no, but I can’t. There’s a bunch of nits and grits that point to all the different data files, for land, sea, and air. Some will update nicely, some will not. Some of the past data updates didn’t update as expected for everybody, so the current thinking is only code stuff for updates.

There may be a scenario update, with all the nits and grits, but if that actually transpires, I expect it to be a ‘restart’ update.

In the meantime, ya’ll just gonna have to do those onsey twosey things on your own nickel.

Sorry, Bro, but ... woof!

This is wrong. Porter's had "single purpose mountings" to save weight. No AA value at all. When they put "duel purpose mountings" on, the battery was reduced to 5 5"/38's

Actually Mike, I am not wrong, the ship in the game, and it the screen shot has DP guns. It might not have had them in real life, but in the game it does until it gets fixed. And, some of them will be taken off when the ships upgrade.

And if you take the time to notice, I was commenting on how the GAME depicted the DD, not how it was in real life. My post was #3.
