some neeb questions

Post by dabeach »

im am trying to learn this game so far still lost. a few questions that might help me get untracked.

. ok when i open up air data and weapon screen there are num lists for gun value, durablity etc . ive looked everywhere heh where can i find what these gun values mean for the planes im sure higher is better but since all the planes have assigned numbers is there a place that will tell me what the numbers mean . also for durablity etc.

2. on those in game intel reports is there a way to click on each report to go the the grid listed in the report and how do i get grid numbers to show up in the ocean hexes?

3. how do you make sense of the production numbers on the screen such for instance oil. as a japanese player for instance how do i know how much i need each turn as opposed to whats being produced. ?

thanks in advance jim

Yes, higher numbers are better for aircraft gun value, maneuverability, durability, etc.

Are you sure you want to know the arcane details of air combat at this level of your learning the game? Some of us get a great deal of pleasure out of developing a general knowledge of various aircraft models' capabilities and limitations, without getting out the scientific calculator.

As glorious as this game is, the designers (may they thrive and prosper) can't get around the fact that we players know the history (e.g. when the allies are going to get superior carrier fighters, the critical inability of the Japanese to train adequate replacement pilots), a problem worsened when posters reveal AI strategies and quirks, in my opinion. I love the complex uncertainties that the designers have created, and I prefer doing what real commanders do, i.e. make decisions without being able to check the numbers.

As for Japanese production, I admire your being willing to take that on when you are new to the game. I am still learning the nuances of the general game mechanics, and am putting off the production headache until later. You'll find myriad posts on production (a testament not only to the helpful community we have here, but to the difficulties of the production system). Good luck.

2. I do not believe so if there isn't something I've missed during all these years with UV, WitP and AE.
If you click on any hex (sea or land) you can see the coordinates in the upper right corner of the screen.
In reality I've found that after a few months you know pretty well the approximate area of 47,53 or other
positions.

3. More or less impossible to give a straight answer to. You need to use the Industry Management screen or even better the WitPStaff utility. It'll take time and even so it's still difficult to have a 100% completely picture (OK, i've just played the Allies sofar in AE so that statement is based on WitP and no WitPStaff).

I found that in WitP the system as such is not so difficult to understand but the problem was to get a complete picture of what you had and what you needed. From that point of view WitPStaff should be a wonderful improvement.

To be honest I think your problems are part of the greatness of this game. It's not supposed to be simple and that makes it interesting for a long time.

The need to go clicking and trying, clicking and trying to find an hex coordinate is the worst thing i have found in the overall game interface (interface that i like very much)!!

May be that with months of exercise this operation begun a routine, but really doesn't exist a better and quicker way? So i renew a query that i made in another side of this forum as soon as i bought the game (query that never had an answer):

1) Is it possible to implement a little window with the hex coordinates when in the main map i hover the mouse over an hex (in the same way that i see the base informations?)

2)If the first solution in too difficult is it possible to add a goto button to the menu bar so one could manually give the hex coordinates xx,yy to directly go to the needed hex?

I read that you are going to stabilize the game focusing only to the bug correction and i agree with your strategy, but this is one of the better games (.. may we call it really a game??) i ever bought, so i would like to see it perfect whenever it could be possible with a little effort (and the hope is the last thing to die).

Thanks in any case for your decision.
