Observations and Suggestions

Post by decaro »

Although new to PCK, I've made the following comments, some based on my knowledge of the CM series.

It's difficult to judge where arty rounds will fall; spoting sometimes spreads arty from left to right, or up and down, and there is no way of knowing which orientation will prevail until after the call, and IMO, it's hard to cancel the call after it's made.

Vehicles are modeled well, but when a moving vehicle contacts an immobile vehicle, the moving vehicle moves around it as if it's skidding on ice, even in the summer!
Unless the mobile vehicle is much lighter, shouldn't the immobile vehicle simply be pushed out of the moving vehicle's way?

Troop management should either become more user-friendly, or even more abstracted; troop moral was easier to handle in the CM series because the player could see its progressive deterioration and withdraw troops before they rout.

Where are the player-designed set scenarios, or are they all in the Winterstorm forum?

1 yes it sucks. Maybe it sucked in real life too. Being worked on though.

2 collision animation has been worked on for the next update and is much better. Tanks only push other things in the movies.

3 infantry was not the focus of the original design and could be better. Working on it.

4 above the main forum are sub forums. One of them has scenarios and campaigns. I think more will come after the update as there will be more interest in the series.

... Tanks only push other things in the movies.

I was reminded of the faux "Battle of the Bulge" where Robert Shaw's Col. Hessler tells a subordinate tank -- in sterotypical German-English -- to push an immobilized tank off a bridge.

Shaw had the most memorable lines, like "The Russian Front does not put meat on a man's bones".

Someone actually modeled the movie's climatic tank battle in CM; he also apologized for it, knowing full well that battle never hapened.

It is fun to push things around in Combat Mission. Also fun in Steel Panthers to collapse buildings with tanks and hope you don't get immobilised.
