Is recon helpfull for bombing missions?

Post by JohnDillworth »

Just occurred to me. Would it be useful to send recon aircraft to scope out targets and citys you plan to bomb? Will they increase their effectiveness?
thanks

I've not done it enough times to be certain, but I have noticed that on port-bombing missions, my bombers find juicy targets more frequently with a high DL; perhaps this only my (mis) perception though.

The higher the DL of a fleet or a base the more accurate the attacks.

One thing to keep in mind, Recon helps everything. The better you recon a Hex, the better you will do there. That includes Amphibious Invasions, bombing, LCU combat, etc. Do not scrimp on Recon.

Recon, recon and more recon. I find that it is worth the lost time to train up some of my heavy bomber pilots in recon. Cats train for ASW and Naval search but recon as well. Can't get enough recon planes.

Funny, in WITP they were just an afterthought.

It makes a huge difference, and is an area the Allies are very deficient.

Well, compared to WitP, Allies do get a lot of Recon units..and IIRC, you can even split some of those for better coverage.

Also remember that bombing missions against bases/cities/units count as 1 recon, so all those bombing missions weren't totaly wasted :)

So do you get a better DL by splitting up the recon squadron and have the three subunits recon the same base or just leave the squadron together to do the job? Anyone tested this?

I have not tested this, but I'm going to guess that 3 sub units will outperform 1 whole unit. I remember in WITP that only 2 recon planes would 'buzz' a target. If that still holds true for WITP AE, then the whole unit would send 2 planes, and 3 sub units would send 6.

The older I get, the better I was.

Nomad's advice does include it, but I thought I would emphasize bombardments. If you are wondering why your 3 BBs and 4 cruisers just don't appear to be doing much damage. The answer is probably intel. Get the recon boys on the job to up the intel for the ships targetting.

You mean that you have to know where things are in order to have a better chance of hitting them? [:@] It was actually coded in?!?! That sucks. This game is TOTALLY broken! The devs should all be shot.
