Fighter Sweeps

Eagle Day to Bombing of the Reich is a improved and enhanced edition of Talonsoft's older Battle of Britain and Bombing the Reich. This updated version represents the best simulation of the air war over Britain and the strategic bombing campaign over Europe that has ever been made.

Fighter Sweeps

Post by Michael T »

Is it somehow possible to plot a figher sweep and set a patrol point without setting a target? I can't see how I can do this without setting a target which means I have to attack some point close by the patrol point I want and suffer flak losses. All I really want to do is fly to a point and set up a patrol, not actually attack a ground target, is this possible?

Also when I plot a bombing mission there is a button that says 'Figher Attack'. What does enabling this button mean?

TIA

Can someone please make a modded scenario that just covers the Daylight Campaign, that would be way cool [:)]

not sure what you mean by plotting with out a target ?

you do not "need" a target, any place on the map, can be made the target of a sweep, so you do not have to be over a "Site" for the target point

here is a snap shot of a sweep plot ?

the fighter attack, is for using fighters to be used as bombers

click that, and it will being up a list of fighters (just make sure the fighters you use, can/are carrying bombs (Fighters in the VIIIth will be set to have drop tanks, Fighters in the IXth will have bombs (along with the 12th and most of the MED, the XVth will also have drop tanks)

for the modding, the hassle is, based on the campaign, BC is going to be an importent part of the battle, but some of the battles are already set up that way ?

Sarge,
I am working on the Daylight portion of my Thread for the War Room for the Allies. One of the things I want to do is build Fighter Sweeps with Patrols to work with Bomber Formations and Strategic Strikes to destory Luftwaffe assets in the air.

So I am working on the Fighter Sweeps with associated Patrol. I have some questions since you have this thread going I thought I would add to it here.

When I select Fighter Squadrons for a Sweep I can see what they are carrying correct?

Is there a way to change what they are carrying or is this a Default setting?

Or Does it matter? If they encounter enemy AC and go to engage do they drop their Ordnance or Drop Tanks or do they fight with them still attached?

If they jettison before engaging then its a moot point with respect to they way I want to use them in this particular case.

I am assuming birds like the P47 and P38 carry Drop Tanks for Escort Duty and Ordnance for Fighter Sweeps. I would assume it is a default setting for all Fighters.... correct?

Any advice you can give on configuring Fighters would be appreciated.

Sarge,
I am working on the Daylight portion of my Thread for the War Room for the Allies.

When I select Fighter Squadrons for a Sweep I can see what they are carrying correct?

with in reason, pick a lead, and then when you pick a follow up units, it will show what they are carrying (so for your idea, you need at least two units flying, to see what they got, if bombs, it will say the bomb load, if tanks, it will not say the load)

Is there a way to change what they are carrying or is this a Default setting?

above, hassle, basicly, if flying with the VIIIth and XVth, fighters will be set to have tanks, XIIth, IXth and 2nd Tac/Med will have bombs

US fighters with the VIIIth/XVth will be able to change there load out, to either tanks or bombs, one hassle here is, tanks can and will change over time, if you change over the tanks, they go back to stock, and it begins again

so, would say, if you plan on changeing something over, plan on keeping them that way

Or Does it matter? If they encounter enemy AC and go to engage do they drop their Ordnance or Drop Tanks or do they fight with them still attached?

well, it all still matters, if they got tanks and have to drop them, they still have the extra range that the tanks gave them up until the time they dropped them, now bombs, if they drop the bombs, they just lose the bombs, there time in the air is still the same (other then what the combat burn is going to use up), in combat they drop (but, not every plane in the unit/units will engage into combat)

If they jettison before engaging then its a moot point with respect to they way I want to use them in this particular case.

if tanks, it just cuts down there time in air, on lotier

I am assuming birds like the P47 and P38 carry Drop Tanks for Escort Duty and Ordnance for Fighter Sweeps. I would assume it is a default setting for all Fighters.... correct?

right, look in the unit page, it will show what they carry, and if it can be changed, will be a button to make the change

Any advice you can give on configuring Fighters would be appreciated.
