The Stalin Line or The Molotov Line?

Post by Marshall Thomas »

I'm playing as The USSR and shortly after Germany honors The M/R Pact, I get the event to build The Molotov Line to bring my defensive line closer to my new western border.

What do you think is the best choice in this situation? I decided to build the Molotov Line, but now I think it was a waste because I prefer The Stalin Line -mainly because each of it's forts have a defensive value of 5; while the forts of the newly constructed Molotov Line each have a value of only 1. In addition, The Stalin Line seems to take advantge of rivers for defensive purposes far more than The Molotov line does.

What do you think is the better choice and why? I don't have enough units to occupy both lines. And even if I did, it could be unwise to split my forces and make it more difficult to concentrate my forces. Thanks in advance for any responses.

edit: by the way, what did The Soviets do historically regarding this choice?

From what I've been reading, the severity and duration of the Initial Shock Events are causing those who like to play the USSR to consider invading the Axis while Germany is still tied up in France.

As for which line to defend it is better to maintain a fluid defensive posture with as many divisions as possible because Russian is going to take a beating no matter where they position themselves.

The next best thing to being clever is being able to quote someone who is.

I'm not sure but don't you get points if you don't build the lines? I would not build them just for that reson. I would use those points for the Kiev, Lennigrad and Moscow defense lines.
