Zaratoughda's AHRS WWII - New PC Stress Test

Post by Jeffrey H. »

Well, here goes. I wanted to do an AAR of M. Z's AHRS mod so people could see what it does and so I could try to run my new PC into the ground.

First off, the setup:

Big map lots of regimes and lots of cities, should bring the new laptop to a crawl.

Here are the sides after the map was generated, I choose Holy Conglomerate because it has a nice ring to it:

You can see that I have several cities, each with some forces and most with an HQ. The cities need to be assigned to an HQ and the units need to be organize to face the enemies.

Note that I have chosen in the second screen to start war randomly between turns 5 and 10. This will give me time to reorient my forces, establish proper supply levels and maybe sneak in some product enhancements before war begins.

Also, note that I have a country to defend ! Yipes ! The AI on the Eastern end of my country is already lined up and ready to pounce !

Here's a detail of the Eastern front:

Ok, much scrambling and reorganzing has gone on in the first few turns. It's now turn 5 and here's a sitrep:

You can see that I have found another enemy in the South. I have readjusted my initial forces to face the two enemies. Unfortunately I've also found one of the biggest problems with random games in general. The initial distribution of cities. Here's the break down of regimes and their initial compliment of cities:

Liberal Colony: 14 vp's
Reformed County: 19 vp's
Holy Conglomerate: 10 vp's
Slave Church: 21 vp's
Anarchic Realm: 8 vp's
Agnostic Empire: 34 vp's ! <gasp>

So it might be a short game....

It probably has to do with the random placing of cities and VP's, you also have a random country to start with. It would be more of a game if the VP's were even I think.

Well, it's been a while but the writing was on the wall for this one. I did a few more turns just to show what had happened after the war started.

I was able to eventually remove the Southern country, (ironically flying the stars and bars) from my continent and push the Eastern NME off the initial starting point and down a narrow peninsula. Where I met with the monster armies of the 35 VP NME. At that point I called the game because it was very clear there was no hope of ever overcoming the imbalance of VP's. Some T15 shots to end this AAR:

Despite me throwing in the towel, I think this AAR gives an idea of what the older version of the ARHS mod will do. The newer version has a balancing sheme that hopefully can level out initial VP imbalances. Also, there are many new improvements to the AI and how it behaves.

I think I'm going to post a request for opponents in the other forum for a random game using this mod. Look for it there if you're interested.

Thanks for posting this. It shows how the ARHS Mod works, which provides a nice twist on the typical random game. Any chance you might do a stress test on the more balanced mod?

Yeah thanks for the update. And there is no glory to be found in battling an opponent that vastly outnumbers you... it's boring really, the AI has so many huge stacks of everything [:@]

As far as the stress test goes, the CPU usage on my new rig was never much more than 40%. I thikn the base program itself is not really good or capable of using the latest CPU technology. No biggie, because turns were not really much longer than a few minutes. I have a Toshiba Qosmio X505-850 with an Intel core I7. I have no real concept of what that means, it's just for reference.

I've already played one game against the AI of the balanced mod, I'm going to see if I can get some interest in the players wanted section for another game of it. I like the idea of giving it another go to highlight how much improved the newest version is, so yes, I'll go ahead and do that as well.

Good to know I've got a few readers.
