I'm quite sure the corp hq and army hq staff are not extremely pleased with having to squat in foxholes and act as a blocking force. What do they shoot with, pencils?

"Generalleutnant, here come the Soviets again. I am out of pencils."

If you only knew what the overzealous overage security platoons of any HQ are capable of... ;)

I'm also playing with D21 around turn 20 and at a similar overall position. I think the PO would need to slow down a bit, it's feeding divisions piecemeal into pocketable packages. I am all over the Crimea, close to Stalino, taken Kharkov, Brjansk, Smolensk, Rzev, Staraya Rus, and entering the inner Leningrad defences. No human opponent would allow all this.

Now that you've said that I'll bet Steve Sill is thinking of making a modification to D21 so that all the reinforcements are held back until about turn 20 when they are ALL allowed to appear at once. LOL

Yes the problem for Elmer is that I appeared before Moscow way too soon[:'(]

Here are some screens at the end of my turn 19

I reached the Moscow fortified ring. Immediate south of the city one of my panzer units even penetrated the ring, but Elmer has been moving in some reinforcements. The units which raced to Taldom and Dimitrov received a pretty good beating but are still holding their positions. I hope to move behind Moscow from the south.
Further west I cleaned up resistance at Rzhev and am advancing.
The upcoming turns will be decisive. I have to get a tangible result before the mud season. Either way, even if my attempt to take Moscow in 1941 I plan to continue the campaign, how bad it may get for me.

Further south I eliminated the Bryansk pocket and decided to push on to Orel. If things go horribly wrong near Moscow I wanna be sure to be deep enough in other sectors.

After a few turns of probing (read "limited") attacks, I broke out of the Kiev and Chernigov bridgeheads. The most weight was put in the Kiev operation with massed artillery.
These operations will be coordinated with the Bryansk and upcoming Dniepropetrovsk (see below)operations. The ultimate aim is conquest of the entire Ukraine and a drive to the Don. Pausing at the Dniepr in the first phase of Barbarossa seems to be paying divident.

Approaching Dniepropetrovsk, but there seems to be a substantial Soviet force defending the city and river crossings.
Romanian units are blocking the Crimean isthmus and we're racing to Nikopol and Melitopol, another phase one stop point.

Thanks for the comments guys[:)]

I think you might stall in the suburbs yet, you could have use for one or two infantry corps more to take Moskau. Could you have four transferred inf divs up front in three turns?
I cleaned up some pockets further west, so I am in the process of rushing in reinforcements.

I notice a lot of red dots on your counters...
Yes, I pushed many of my units to the limit, but that's the only way to get speedy results. I know I'm taking risks by moving so fast and leaving thin flanks... We'll soon see if it paid off.

Here are some screenies taken during turn 20, before combat

While converging on Moscow, a substantial enemy force can be trapped at Volokolamsk
I may be able to push all the way to the canal, but doesn't this look much like Stalingrad?

Further south the follow-up operations after the battle of Bryansk look promising
The Soviets defending Orel find themselves caught in a substantial salient.

The action from turns 20 to 24
My offensive is starting to stall due to exhausted units and increased Soviet opposition.

Here's the situation from Moscow down to Orel, where I'm mopping up the last pocket.
Moscow is being defended well... I'm starting to wonder if I'm gonna be able to capture the city before the mud season... We're well into september now

Further south the break-outs from Chernigov and Kiev went well and we are on the move there, despite stubborn opposition.
I failed to get into Dnepropetrovsk.. am gonna try to sneak some units around the city from the south where I took Zaporozhe

The situation on 17 September 1941
I'm not fighting along the entire frontline anymore.
After the capture of Novgorod, Staraya Russa and Demyansk I'm gonna consolidate my positions on that line.

Still no all-out assault on Moscow. I'm probing but my units yet have to recover from their whirlwind advance. Two recce units managed to get into the suburbs earning their Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross with Golden Oak Leaves, Swords, and Diamonds... posthumous

Good luck with the assault on Moscow! I lined up all the artillery and blasted my way into the center with as many panzer and panzer grenadier divisions as possible. Even with 10+ artillery batteries and fortified infantry, the Soviet's Winter Offensive successfully recaptured the center portion of the City. It was rough.
