Centre changed much. Germans panzer-spearheads made several breakthroughs(arrows @ pic), so i pulled my line back into new, second line(line @ pic) avoiding encircling attemps. Smolensk's suburbs works next as frontlines:

FITE T18

I finally finished the Axis turn 18. There were lots of changes in the front lines this turn because Dave pulled his troops back in several places and I was fortunate enough to trap several of them and destroy them. Turn 18's AAR can be found here:

Hey you guys:

I finally finished the Axis turn 19 moves.  There were some major changes to the front lines shapes this turn and some Axis progress was made at a great cost.  You can find the AAR here:  http://www.filedropper.com/dahdfitegameturn19

Shot from Kharkov front, south. Damn, Fulkerson's panzers cracked my line, and made 100km hole. Also he dropped 7. FJ Div into my back. I pulled line backwards little bit, and i carried some reinforcements there (12. Army):

The battle of Medjerda is almost forgotten, but was fought against highly disciplined German troops and blasted a route straight to Tunis it was a perfect infiltration battle and should be remembered as the best fought British battle of the war.

I myself, just off the top of my head, aren't aware of any German paratroop drops besides the major one on Cyprus.  The units in FITE might just be there because they were present in the real thing and leaving them out would leave an 'historical unit hole' in the order of battle.  I donno.  I figure they are there, they can drop, might as well use them.

It was Crete, not Cyprus. The operation succeeded but the German paratroopers took heavy losses there. After that Hitler forbid all major airborne operations.

Crete, right. Um...weren't there some airborne operations into Holland early in the war. But they used gliders instead I think. Anybody know for sure?

By the way, here's an update on that 100km hole I made in Dave's lines near D-town. I'm rushing my Panzer dudes southeast to try to trap those Soviet survivors on the wrong side of the river so I can eventually surround and destroy them.

Well they did use Para's for sure in Holland, no gliders though. AFAIK they used gliders to capture the fortress of Eben Emael in Belgium (supposedly invincible... but not from the sky)

Red dots is where they landed.

Image

Lost a lot of Junkers due to Flak.

They used 11 gliders to put troops on the roof of Eben Emael, about 80 or so survived. These were able to capture and destroy a couple of fortresses defended by a couple of thousand(!) men.

Thanks for that Josh.  Cool pictures too.  I'm going to have to start including some pictures like that in my AARs.

Nice pics just looked up in one of my books in the 1940 campain German troops landed on the Nieuwe Maas river in Rotterdam in 12 HE 59 seaplanes got out and formed a bridge head on the Willems bridge and held it untill German Paras who landed at a stadium could reinforce them by traveling to the bridge on tramcars i wonder if they had tickets???

Thanks for your kind words. It's guys like you that provide encouragement that keeps me going. It's not all that time consuming now that I've decided to not include the attack results ( there are typically 100+ Axis attacks per turn ) so my AARs are definately a work in progress. Which brings me to my next question.....is there something you want included that isn't so far? Something you could do without that I'm putting in there already? Feedback will only make the AARs better.

Good question Larry. AAR's are something of an art I guess, sort of writing a book, and it's a personal thing too. There are roughly three kinds of AAR's:

1) writing down a summary of the battles and intended movements with some screenies. So it's a clean, "simple", not very time consuming AAR. Often used by beginning AAR writers *or* those not willing to spend too much time on it, which I can understand completely.

2) the AAR's which go completely ahistorical, just go for the fun, say start as Italy and conquer the whole known world, invade Russia from the South, declare war on the USA and invade it though Alaska. Many times such writers post really funny pictures, well like the one of the Hamburger in your other AAR.

And 3) the most detailed ones. Very historical and lots of pictures (of whatever kind, buildings, technologies, politicians, generals and so on) giving the AAR a feel of history being written. I remember some HOI-2 AAR's which were just like that, a history book. Loved to read them.

But in the end it all boils down to... what do you want as a writer? Now I know TOAW is not about producing and politicians, more about numbers and strategies, so one is quite limited in one's choices.
A very good, well IMHO, is this AAR in German, they even use an appropriate lettertype: http://www.si-games.com/forums/showthre ... 84&page=63 and http://www.si-games.com/forums/showthre ... 86&page=22 Both opponents write their own AAR.

On a sidenote, why do I (or we) read AAR's? Well I can only speak for myself ofcourse, but I'm a casual gamer. I only play small scenarios, and then maybe a couple of turns only... but I *love* the great scenarios with large numbers of counters, there is no way unfortunately I can play them. I would be found dead behind my monitor I'm afraid. [:)]

Hey you guys....I finally finished Axis turn 20.  I captured Odessa and moped up somewhat the line near D-town and gained a hex or two near Smolensk etc.  You can find the Axis turn 20 AAR here:  http://www.filedropper.com/dahdfitegameturn20

EDIT: uploaded the pig again to the same file server and obtained the same url again. Tried it and it worked, so I guess all is well with the link. Thanks Dave.

But if u write a very detailed AAR when the game is still going, isnt there a possibility that u give too much information to your opponent?

True, that's why the first post usually has something like this: First post-start a new AAR- opponents such and such-house rules such and such-AND (name of opponent) IS NOT ALLOWED TO TAKE A PEEKLOOK!
Having said that, it is customary not to do so, so it needn't be written down every time, know what I mean? Would spoil the game.

I've been posting detailed AARs just as if I didn't care who wins the game.  Maybe that's because I don't really care all that much who 'wins' the game....I don't play cut throat games...I play because it's fun.  If Dave reads my AARs that's okie dokie with me.  I've invited him to read them more than once and if I were him I would.  If only for the intel they contain.  I've seen AARs that were posted after the fact, sometimes much after the fact and that's okay too.  I guess I'm playing this FITE game with Dave just to explore the 'what-if' conditions that occur from time to time.  I was never in the Army but I've gained an insight into the need for good physical conditioning for the troops, good maintenence for the equipment and excellent leaders who lead from the front.  It's like playing chess but a heck of a lot more complicated when you're playing a good player.  Dave is a good player.

Big close-up picture from centre. New line is holding nicely... So far!
Also, note that second (third?) line in Moscow front is built, because Germans made thru' old one again:
