Data Request -Royal Navy Kent Class Cruisers

Post by Don Bowen »

In July, 1945 the surviving Royal Navy (that is, all but RAN) Kent Class cruisers were converted for trooping duties. Does anyone has any information on the details of this conversion and the subsequent classification and use of these (then) ex-cruisers?

Here is some general research - I could find no dedicated conversion match in the brief scan I made. There is a note on HMS Cumberland of a post war marine detachment ferry I attached below.

HMS Cumberland history - On 3 September, in company with the cruiser HMS London, they put ashore marine detachments at Sabang in Sumatra after the surrender of Japan the previous day. She arrived at Jakarta on the 15th, in company with one frigate and four Australian minesweepers. Because of the disturbances ashore between the Indonesian Nationalists and the Japanese, a British Battalion was not landed on Batavia before 29 September.

I don't have any big change in my data, one was escorting carriers in North Atlantic.
