Radar-Equipped Planes

Post by Q-Ball »

What advantage to planes get, if any, when they are equipped with Radar?

The G3M3 Nell includes a radar; does that make it a better plane than the G4M1?

Same question for alot of Allied models......

It's supposed to help a lot with ASW.  Only second hand knowledge on my part so far...

Might help with night naval attack too, but I don't use that option much.

Be aware that they won't actually have the radar until the device comes online, which is after 6/44 or even later for all the Japanese AC radars and MAD. Aside from that, the superior 21 hex torpedo range of the G3M3 is still good to have. Not that you can use it without fighter escort most of the time.

That's right, they have the ability to get shot down at greater distances from home base than other planes!

It would be helpful is the IJN would just cap the range of the G-series at 14, and maybe use the fuel savings for some armor, but that's just me

That answers my question though: No reason NOT to standardize on the G4M

Having planes that can pumel my lightly escorted transports seriously slows me down

I prefer to keep G3M3 in limited production for units that mostly do air search. Extra air search range can be very useful, at least if you do one-day turns.

make sure the pilots are well-trained (not sure if you can do training in night-flying, but as it was so important to the USN it might be an idea for a future patch?) or else there won't be much noticable difference.  Other than your planes getting lost and never seen again...
