Soft & Hard attack value ?

Post by xlegendre »

Hi,

I am currently trying to establish a correct mod, specially about LCU values. In fact, as China seems really to be a great challenge with Witp AE compared to Witp, I am trying to balance the troops value. Historically, 1 japanese division was equivalent to between 3 and 4 chinese corps.

In Witp AE, I observe this is not the case. A chinese corps, at 100% of its strength, can reach a total of nearly 800 squads for assaut, and a japanese div can reach nearly 500 squads for assaut (always including HMG and engineers squads).

As a chinese squad is worth 11 in soft attack value, and a japanese squad is nearly 19 or barrely 20, it seems that a japanese division is just equal to a chinese corps.

Tell me if I am wrong.

Also, I noticed that a soft value inferior to 11 was meaning no attack / assault value at all. So a unit with a soft attack value between 1 and 10 will have no effect and no assault value I think. So please explain us how is scaled the soft and the hard attack value for LCU.

I actually think that 3 to 4 corps of Chinese to 1 Japanese division sound like what is happening in the game, with maybe even an edge for the Japanese in the matchup as there are many factors in favour of the Japanese that aren't seen in the TOE.
First, you have to take into account that it is nearly impossible to get a Chinese corps at full TOE, at the moment my best corps have about 350-400 squads combat ready. The 800 squad TOE is also only for a portion of the corps, there are corps with much less squads in the TOE. On top of that combat modifiers are nearly always in favour of the Japanese, they have better commanders, supply and experience, which are great equalizers even if the Japanese lack in raw AV.

Well I understand about supply, experience and the fact that a chinese corps is rarely at full strength. However, I would like to have information about soft & hard attack scale used. Because for exemple, if you put a squad value with a soft attack below 11, it will have no assault value at all. For militia it may have been useful to do so but currently it seems to not be possible. Any info about this soft/attack scale ?

There is no such thing as a hard/soft attack in AE. Maybe you think of a differnet game?

Many units in AE have squad values less than 11 and some even have 8 or less and they work just fine. I think you are thinking of a different game because none of these things are in AE.

I guess he is talking about the anti-soft and anti-armor values that devices have assigned to them.

WLockard, you are right [:D], this is exactly these two items.

Then I do not understand because the anti-soft and the anti-armor has nothing to do with the AV. The game has two things and the anti-soft and the anti-armor is when two units shoot before an attack, and AV is when a unit attacks after it shoots.

There is nothing about a 10 for a attack. AV is just a number of Squad devices a unit has so if you have 100 Squads and 5 men in a Squad you will get AV 100 and if you have 100 Squads and 20 men you get AV 100 and anti-soft and anti-armor has nothing to do with this. The game manual and the editor manual has much base information about this.

I disagree with you, troups valor are established through anti-soft and anti-armor value, this is the troops rating against hard and soft target when assaulting, for IJA infantry for example. Squad do not proceed to any bombing before an assault, this is left to artillery devices that have such ability.

In combat there are two phases ---a fire phase and an assault phase.

In the fire phase units use their Anti-Soft and Anti-Armor to "fire" at enemy units.

In the Assault phase squads with an Antisoft Value of 11+ count towrad the AV.

Of course in both phases a cornucopia of modifiers apply....

I would not mess with these values as much thought went into these values ... they represent more than just a head count.
