They need to be backed by plenty of indirect fire.

Just for another example (not a toy for Liest to mess with [;)], and go round behind its primary meaning )

Subject:     Storm over Iraklion
Situation:  Urban fighting for the City centrum, and Harbour

In this variant of the scenario, we have whole German drop on one side of the City
Allies - are equal to it. Drirecting their forces, able to focus on defending objectives, so you cant afford to chill with your boys to cover evry position. The advance must go on - and must go on in a fashion, that will please Führer
For this to happen - significant amount of Inf units are required with the ofenssive mindset.
Wich leaves some windows..

As on the pic, important entrance to the city from South-East (flank of the main ofenssive) is defended by a combined force lead by a 5 Fallshrimjeager Flack Coy equiped with 8 2cm flaks 38.

Looks not this much stabile.
But the aera is completly dominated by those guns, protecting from evry possible direction of Allied advance at this sector. Closed - allowing to project the vital focus(forces) on main advance North.

Image[/img]

3 times Allies lunched an attempt to botherthe flank(from two directions). Using mainly Greek Inf souported by some elemnts of the York-Lancs 2 Bn.
-All 3 failed under the direct fire of those flacks.

..with significant losses.

wich giving the German player green light for continuing a push for Harbour facilities, and spreading the second wing South-East.

Ofcourse, Human mind could easily develop an effective way for a push there, but in my opinion its not the point to place the units in editor - pick a force for the task, and lunch the attack to crush it, with 100 % intel , not bothering about strong FJ advance hitting the edge of the port soon, while second, constructing a deep inland drive.
Its just not a cartoon.[:)]
