Good games on Politcs

Post by Adraeth »

Give me suggestion for some really good and challenging games on Politics, by now i know Democracy and President Forever... i would like to play Pax Romana but it is really unplayable (can't be installed)... does anyone knows some real good game that can give me the feeling of those beautiful matches at "Republic of Rome"?

I do not mean only on ancient politcs... just a good game on politics

Well i can't consider EU III a game of politics. I mean a game concerning on different parties, making promises, winning elections... and remain in power.

If you are including strategic diplomacy, then Crown of Glory EE would be a good suggestion.

COG EE is an excellent game, i know it for sure being honoured in testing it [:)].. anyway i am focused on domestic policies, so grabbing seats in Parliament, blackmailing opponents... taking decisions when in Government and trying to remain on those seats [:D].

...Maybe that a game like this is not yet programmed [:(]

Galactic Civilizations 2 has elements of those things, although I doubt it goes into as much detail as you would like. Might be worth a look though.

Apart from the last bit The Political Machine 2008 might be a possibility.

I bought this. Too simplisitic, limited strategy, little replayability and hard to lose.

I soon deleted it along with the game key.

President Forever...

It doesn't play full screen. On a 19" screen it justs looks frustratingly stupid.

Buy these board games instead both from Z-Man Games, the latter - Campaign Manager 2008 is hot off the presses and awaiting my opening of the shrink wraper to play with my wife.

Alternately there's always Diplomacy (Avalon Hill/Hasbro), Twilight Struggle (GMT Games) and the 2009 re-release of Republic of Rome (Valley Games):

Adam those are really fantastic games... that's my point... i am wondering if anyone ever made a pure gem like those as a pc game; after all i believe (without elections) that by now Democracy seems to be the most interesting.

Have any of you played this?

I looked at it, but the military aspect seemed cartoonish and turned me off.

Hi,

Have you already seen Republic: The Revolution?

I didn't play it myself, because I've heard rather mixed opinions of this game, but maybe that's exactly what you're looking for.

Tried it for a couple of hours. Learing curve is steep, or should I say difficulty is high, and there's a lot of micro management, i.e you need to pay attention to all kinds of details. Still feels like an interesting game, but it takes lots and lots of time. Not a beer and pretzel thingy. Haven't tried the military stuff, but it's not a war game, so I don't expect it to be very developed. First and foremost it's a political and financial "game". Graphics and sound feels very old, but on the other hand, we're pretty much used to very basic stuff around here when it comes to that ;-)

Anyways, don't know if this is going to be something that sticks, or if it'll just fade away from my hard drive. Playing a bunch of different games right now, so each game gets kind of limited attention :-)
