Newbie question : how to mine

Post by Gaius Duilius »

Yes, you guessed it right. I didn't read very well the manual and went to play with enthusiasm but little preparation. And one thing I didn't find out reading the AARs here was how to use the minelayers.
Could you please tell me how the heck can I put them to work and mine something? I would like to see some IJN ship going down because of mines (although in my game two of them actually did that, but because of pre-laid minefields at Singapore and Hong Kong).
Thank you and please excuse me for my newbie-ness! [&o]

not sure whats the problem, but ill give it a try;

you form a mine warfare TF,
you make sure they are armed with mines (ship details), if not, replenish at a lvl 9 port, or at a smaller port with a ML tender
(converting these at the start of the war could be a very good plan)

set your convoy to a destination, and set the "lay mines" options to active (otherwise it says "do not lay mines")

not sure if there's anything else to mention to mining places, this sounds like a general; "how to put a mine in the enemy" guide

p.s. remember minelaying subs, those are nice to mine an unsuspecting port.

Well, thank you. Now the only thing to be settled is where the heck is the damned 'Lay mines' option button. I can't find it anywhere...

When you click on a Mine Warfare fleet look under the picture of the ship and you'll see a list of options. You'll need to look in the left hand columm where the options in order are: Human Control, Retirement Allowed, Mission Speed and the last should read Do Not Lay Mines, this you'll need to click on to read Lay Mines, then click Replenish TF From Port to ensure you've got mines loaded and you should be good to go.

ill print screen next time im in the game (might take 1 or 2 days)

i believe its close to the;
"do not unload" for transports
"escort do not bombard" for bombardments
"computer controle" for auto convoy
those are yellow thingies, right under the picture of the TF ships.

Why thank you!
Li'l problem : the mentioned option is just "Do not unload" and it's not active. No "Lay mines" buttons whatsoever. It's some fault in the program for which I need a patch? Or what?
Thank you, by the way!

The "Do Not Lay Mines" options should be there if you have the TF mission set to "Mine Warfare"... if you have it set to Transport or something akin to it, you will see "Do Not Unload".

This assumes you have the game patched to current version ... older versions worked differently... and poorly... so patch up!!
