RE: BACK IN BUSINESS - PzB goes East again(st) Andy Mac
I had almost managed to suppress the existence of "vegemite" since I got back home from my Oz stay, thx for reminding me Mynok [:'(]
Allied units fight quite well in Oz, quite different then in India...
If Andy had brought 2 divs to Katherine I would have cut them of if he had made a stand - didn't you get surrounded or did the Japs come light handed?
Think the new patch will reduce ground interdiction further - can need it cause those B-17's cause a lot of damage despite poor weather and heavy CAP.
Ok we're almost ready to invade Cooktown - takes forever to march in so a crack regiment will land tomorrow.
Warming up the defenders and another regiment is marching in from Normanton - can help with the capture of Cairns later on.

Saved this one for last!
- Sent 2 raiders to scout and look for easy targets near Kiwi land.
Yesterday I spotted an unidentified enemy TF and intercepted it today.
Guess if this was a surprise; a huuge Allied surface TF - 6 cruisers and 13 destroyers.
Our raiders charged into the confused enemy ranks - landed a 6" shell on the bridge of the heavy
cruiser Australia, turned around and managed to retreat! [X(]
This was very interesting and I told Andy that this would probably result in another version of the chicken run!-)
The annoying thing is that I turned the KB around 2 days ago; didn't think I would find anything here as Andy saw me coming [:'(] Well, he doesn't know that and will probably get his chiefs to burn boiler oil at a high rate tomorrow [:D]

RE: BACK IN BUSINESS - PzB goes East again(st) Andy Mac
Hey teacher, Im gonna try out your tactics now that Im given an opportunity to star in my own AAR, albeit on the wrong side of the fence
Thanks for the years of teaching, I shall make you proud (or desperate)!
Thanks for the years of teaching, I shall make you proud (or desperate)!
RE: BACK IN BUSINESS - PzB goes East again(st) Andy Mac
Remember that some of my tricks only works for the dark side of the fence
- Pretty sure you're well qualified to bring the war to the enemy!
I'll gladly take credit for all your victories but defeats are on your tab! [;)]
What's new today; Cooktown falls and we can move on Cairns and put Townsville under siege.
Me thinks Andy will either move south with his troops or make a major stand. AF size = 7 now.
Andy is shipping troops to Australia; no doubt about that - he can do that but I will reserve the right to cut of
his supply convoys later on when we complete our land campaigns.
Anyone knows how much supplies and fuel Andy needs to ship in each month to keep operating?

What's new today; Cooktown falls and we can move on Cairns and put Townsville under siege.
Me thinks Andy will either move south with his troops or make a major stand. AF size = 7 now.
Andy is shipping troops to Australia; no doubt about that - he can do that but I will reserve the right to cut of
his supply convoys later on when we complete our land campaigns.
Anyone knows how much supplies and fuel Andy needs to ship in each month to keep operating?

Anyone knows how much supplies and fuel Andy needs to ship in each month to keep operating?
supplies won´t be an issue for him I guess. This if he moves them around with the "draw supply" feature and it isn´t cut off in some base. You start with a couple of hundred thousand supplies, get more each day from the industry and if he shipped some convoys full of supply in then he probably has somewhere between 500 and 750.000 supplies. [:D]
RE: BACK IN BUSINESS - PzB goes East again(st) Andy Mac
Hm, I thought Oz was dependent on imports - isn't that correct?
The only thing Andy will be lacking in AE is fuel then; ac also have to be shipped in unless they can make the flight from the nearest island.

not dependent on the import of supplies. Like I´ve said, there are hundreds of thousand supplies to start with and the industry there creates a couple of thousand each day as long as fuel is available. But supplies, no, he won´t have supply issues (if he´s able to move it to where he needs them). He will have far more supplies than you! [;)]
RE: BACK IN BUSINESS - PzB goes East again(st) Andy Mac
He will have big fuel issues though. Australia sucks up lots of fuel... If you isolate it it becomes very hard to operate a big fleet from there.

That's what I assumed Veji, Andy got large fleet running to and from Oz.

RE: BACK IN BUSINESS - PzB goes East again(st) Andy Mac
It's a slow build up process in North Eastern Oz right now; need to get some real bases, join forces and bring in more supplies and fuel before we're ready for the next round.
It's an interesting time; we can do as we please and are mostly winning all over the place! [8D]
Andy doesn't make a lot of big mistakes so I'll just be working towards securing a best possible perimeter defense while staying on the offensive until early-mid 43. From then on it will be a staged withdrawal with hit and run counter-attacks.

Well to be fair on the Lightnings, in every encounter they outnumbered your fighters... 2:1 against the Zero.. and only lightly shot up two undefended bomber units
I'd expect that many P40E to do that much damage as well.
The P-38 is no wonder weapon.
Cheers

At Bandoeng, I wonder how the Dutch stayed in good supply condition so long that they could maintain decent adjusted AV (I realize the terrain helped) and re-build forts. Is there any chance the fort level 2 was a bug or FOW? They went from 0 lvl to lvl 2 and back down to lvl 0 over the course of three attacks, and you never got better than 1-to-1 odds until the final blow. Also strange that merely shock attacking had such a dramatic effect on your AV. Hard to fathom, but congrats on the hard won victory.

They have a service rating of 3 so are vulnerable in front line airbases. Smart Allied player will use them from large bases to the rear. Probably best in high sweeps.
I think in AE the P47 is going to turn out to be the Allied uber fighter. Fast and well armed and I think it is about the onlly Allied army fighter in the game with a service rating of 1.

I've also been wondering about Bandoeng; was 18k supplies in the base when I captured it.
No answers to fort levels, didn't think FOW applied to this?
When you play AE you immediately get a feeling for the "quality" of the opponents ac.
Fighting the Flying Tigers in P-40's you know results depend on numbers and surprise; everything can happen.
When my best Zero jocks meet up with an even number of P-38's (probably manned by good pilots but not as hot as 80+)
I know we're going to loose unless I sweep in superior numbers. Yesterday those 8 P-38's shot down 2 fighters and 4 bombers without friendly losses. That is a great feat when facing 9 crack enemy fighters and dozens of 2E's - I just remember all to well when this happened the last time. - As soon as my top notch pilots are gone the P-38's will double their kill ratios.
What I miss is the Zero bonus; in the first 6 months it is the Allies that should struggle to figure out how to handle the agile Jap fighters. Then it would be acceptable that kill ratios first evened out around mid 42 to late 42 before slowly increasing in favor of the Allies as the best Jap pilots are lost.
Perhaps the P-38 isn't "Uber" - but it makes the Zero obsolete already from 01/42. How right can that be....
Don't even wanna think about the "Jug" - I know what to expect in 44-45 [;)]

Take heart - there are very few P-38's during the first 10 or so months of 1942. Even after that there are distinctly fewer than in WITP.
From the AAR's I'm reading the Allies are having a hard time with the nimble IJ fighters in early '42. I suspect you are experiencing a combination of the very few P-38's also being piloted by the best pilots he has. It would be useless to throw them away with the less-skilled average pilots the Allies have early on.
