Again I've discovered something new long after I should have. When pressing R on the keyboard, lines in different shades of red come up between bases. What am I looking at?? Supply lines?? What do the different shades indicate?? Thanks.

Those are the road/rail/trails connecting the various land bases.  IIRC, the Black ones are rail lines, the deep red are trails, and the other red are roads.

Some other hot-keys are

1 = Hex terrain. 2 letters. Capital letter is (O=ocean, C=coastal, L=land), small letter is specific terrain (a=atoll/clear, c=clear, w=woods, s=swamp, m=mountain, u=urban).

2 = (Strategic) Zones

3 = Weather (T=Tstorms, R=Rain, S=Rain, P=Partly Cloudy)

W = ZOC
