Well this was ugly for the allies, at least for the US part[:D]
The CA Ibuki and CA Iwake between them sank 9 ships in 3 different TF's on the same turn. Was like watching a bowling ball hit the pins. Here is the combat report. My biggest concern is that KB did not attack Pearl again? They scooted off somewhere[:-] and until I can locate them Pearl Harbor may as well be on mars. I am sure fishbed will comment soon as well.
I have 2 troop convoys starting toward pearl harbor and am getting tankers together for a large fuel TF to OZ. Gathering 2 carriers south of Canton and we will decide what to do with them once there together. 2 West coast carriers (one under repair) and the one at sea (Hornet I believe) will join up and will most likely provide escort for that fuel and maybe a troop convoy to OZ, still not sure yet but of course opinions are welcome[:)]

The CA Ibuki and CA Iwake between them sank 9 ships in 3 different TF's on the same turn. Was like watching a bowling ball hit the pins. Here is the combat report. My biggest concern is that KB did not attack Pearl again? They scooted off somewhere[:-] and until I can locate them Pearl Harbor may as well be on mars. I am sure fishbed will comment soon as well.
I have 2 troop convoys starting toward pearl harbor and am getting tankers together for a large fuel TF to OZ. Gathering 2 carriers south of Canton and we will decide what to do with them once there together. 2 West coast carriers (one under repair) and the one at sea (Hornet I believe) will join up and will most likely provide escort for that fuel and maybe a troop convoy to OZ, still not sure yet but of course opinions are welcome[:)]

Not really - for the Allies the problem has always been tankers, not fuel itself, and for the Japanese it means you need to be a little more thoughtful about sending out the entire fleet.

Don't know what the transports were waiting for, but still, I'll take what Im given anyday. Too bad I just sent one single DD there, there could have been 4 of them. Nevermind, he did a very clean job sweeping everyone like a big boy.
Problem is, the captain gave probably some whisky to everyone afterwards to celebrate, and most probably a whole bottle to the lookout guy, whose next deed was to mistake the third of the whole IJN battleline for some kind of wild whale pack or something. Seconds later, he had a smile sixteen inches wide. Too bad.
In those tragic days, such a beautiful story had to come to an ugly halt someday. It happened less than 40 miles away in the south, and the gallant crew fought on, giving the flabbergasted escort a last illustration of America's will to fight to the end! You will be remembered, USS Stewart!
S, brave little one! You will be missed! Mike, John, shame on you, it's like having an elephant fart on a fly, how could you?!
(but now, seriously, if I could rely on anything else than biplans and WW1 flush deck destroyers for a change, the average Allied taxpayer would be glad to know that he/she didn't throw his/her money out there in the wild just for fun during the thirties...!)

I'd use her for off map movements: she's too big of an asset to be risked - anyway there are only few ports which can handle her, and they are all in Australia (well there's Singapore too but hum). You'd better send me some GIs through Capetown instead [:'(] [;)]

Hey everyone!
Strategy isn't my best spot. Those days I am very worried about the course of the war, and I am not sure where I should reinforce myself.
- Malaya: I am trying to turn Georgetown into a strongpoint. The thing is I hope the enemy may be obliged to shock attack his way into Georgetown/Penang, but Im not really sure about this. Can someone give me some advice on this?
I may go as far as landing the Burmese reinforcements in Georgetown in order to stall the enemy advance in the sector, overkilling the troops coming from Thailand. Do you think this is realistic? I am not sure about what I face yet. But I know next turn the IJA will land in Kuantan. I am not really sure if I can hold singapore for long. Transports are waiting close-by in order to quickly evacuate as many troops as possible if the situation gets bad. We will make a stand north-east of Kuala Lumpur too, the terrain there seems to be good.
- Indonesia: enemy troops will land in Ambon tomorrow - but I have Gill and Sparrow Forces embarking right now to provide some relief. The force is apparently covered by a 4BB strong battleline and baby KB - I think they're both gonna support the invasion and go resupply. Force Z (2xBC) is pretty close, one modern BB is 2 days away, and Force X (Illustrious + BB) will be there soon too. I will try to sneak troops in there and stall the attack, or retake the base, as there is only 1 SNLF attacking. I guess the Stewart pretty well shot up the rear-echelon troops which were supposed to land there, and tonight a flesh-deck AVP is trying to kill more troops. I hope Zeroes won't start to fly from Ambon right away...
- As you see, I already gave up pretty well on defending Darwin. Seeing the other AARs, I thought that those troops would be more useful in DEI than defending a place that just can't get defended. with Ken, we're gonna prepare to give up N-W australia I think, there's no way to reinforce the place well enough. Im not gonna give up the West coast though. If my "indian" units don't reinforce Malaya or Java, well they'll go to Perth. That's where the line will be drawn in the sand for Australia.
- I have to protect eastern India and Ceylon too, especially if Burma, because of our rules, may become a part-time theater. I count on the new troops for this, but I don't know how long the DEI will stand a 10+BB and 8+ CV kaigun. Let's make this as bloody as it can get for the Japanese.
Any remarks? Im a full campaign newbie, so i'll take anything related to South-East Asia, really!

- Malaya: I am trying to turn Georgetown into a strongpoint. The thing is I hope the enemy may be obliged to shock attack his way into Georgetown/Penang, but Im not really sure about this. Can someone give me some advice on this?
I may go as far as landing the Burmese reinforcements in Georgetown in order to stall the enemy advance in the sector, overkilling the troops coming from Thailand. Do you think this is realistic? I am not sure about what I face yet. But I know next turn the IJA will land in Kuantan. I am not really sure if I can hold singapore for long. Transports are waiting close-by in order to quickly evacuate as many troops as possible if the situation gets bad. We will make a stand north-east of Kuala Lumpur too, the terrain there seems to be good.
- Indonesia: enemy troops will land in Ambon tomorrow - but I have Gill and Sparrow Forces embarking right now to provide some relief. The force is apparently covered by a 4BB strong battleline and baby KB - I think they're both gonna support the invasion and go resupply. Force Z (2xBC) is pretty close, one modern BB is 2 days away, and Force X (Illustrious + BB) will be there soon too. I will try to sneak troops in there and stall the attack, or retake the base, as there is only 1 SNLF attacking. I guess the Stewart pretty well shot up the rear-echelon troops which were supposed to land there, and tonight a flesh-deck AVP is trying to kill more troops. I hope Zeroes won't start to fly from Ambon right away...
- As you see, I already gave up pretty well on defending Darwin. Seeing the other AARs, I thought that those troops would be more useful in DEI than defending a place that just can't get defended. with Ken, we're gonna prepare to give up N-W australia I think, there's no way to reinforce the place well enough. Im not gonna give up the West coast though. If my "indian" units don't reinforce Malaya or Java, well they'll go to Perth. That's where the line will be drawn in the sand for Australia.
- I have to protect eastern India and Ceylon too, especially if Burma, because of our rules, may become a part-time theater. I count on the new troops for this, but I don't know how long the DEI will stand a 10+BB and 8+ CV kaigun. Let's make this as bloody as it can get for the Japanese.
Any remarks? Im a full campaign newbie, so i'll take anything related to South-East Asia, really!

Difficult to give definitive answers about what to do in Malaya, but I can give you my preference and a few pitfalls to definitiely avoid.
Re Geogetown -
My personal preference it to get everyone back to Singapore rather than have them dissipate their strength in lots of small battles. Any unit that is forced to retreat loses any combat value for.....well, longer than their expected lifespan. May be worth leaving behind some of the really small units dotted around as each one will take a day to clear. Also - try not to allow him to paradrop on any base. Having to attack the base takes a day and Malaya is all about delay. Very important to set everyone to be preparing for Singapore as soon as possible.
I wouldn't bring anyone in from Burma - mainly because, if your opponent is alive to it, they'll probably just get drowned at sea. If you do be careful not to bring in units that are part of the Burma 1st division as you will not be able to form it if an element is lost (and divisions fight better than a collection of their subunits).
You are being a lot more aggressivewith your LCU's than I am. Normally I am shipping units to Oz and India, rather than sending them the other way. Just remember when you are on the defence strategically, losing a battle may well mean surrender and whole units disappear. They are then not available for defending the next point. Ambon will be taken. Be sure that the extra delay achieved is worth permanently losing the LCU's you ship in (or at least for a long time if you extract a cadre for rebuilding). Also Gull and Sparrow are part of an Ozzie division which you will not be able to form if they are lost.

John III is the most aggressive player I've seen.
A relatively inexperienced and aggressive Allied commander will likely be serving John meals on a platter.
There is a chance, though, that you might accomplish things that will frustrate and slow the enemy. That chance, I believe, is considerably less than the chance you'll be feeding the enemy.
Bottom line, though, is that the presence of Allied carriers is the biggest factor for the Allies in '42. If you have them (or at least any losses are offset by equal Japanese carrier losses), the Japanese have to be much more cautious. Lose a big carrier battle, though, and the Japanese can go where they want when they want (and usually multiple directions at a time).

This isn't really correct, you can lose some of the elements that make up the Burma Division, like the brigades, artillery units, etc. and still be able to rebuild the complete division (same goes for Australians, you'll only need one of the bird battalions to rebuild the whole division). However, if you split up your units yourself (into the A,B,C subunits again not the 1,2,3, etc. you get when transporting), you will have to have every subunit to be able to rebuild the division.

I have to disagree with Canoerebel, John is aggressive but he isn't very strategic. He sees targets and hits them and strings operations together through happenstance rather than a deep strategic plan. This can be used, IMO, to lead him where you wish.
The problem for the Allies is that the Japanese have been enhanced in this scenario and thus the Allies need to be aware that the Japanese are likely to be able to advance farther faster than stock by virtue of those enhancements.

Yes AJ and I were discussing this. It is possible that John may hit Australia from 2 places, they have the carrier support to do it. We already know Darwin is a wash, so it will not be defended. But we think Perth can be (due to the rail line there is is much easier to reinforce) and plan to build it up. Of course they could go somewhere else but odds are they will go to the SE, best place to advance and also delay the allies.

Goodness no! Georgetown is nothing but a surrender sack. They are not obliged to shock attack into Georgetown. Even if they were, there's no way out for you. At low fort levels, you're selling yourselves too cheaply.ORIGINAL: Fishbed

Fishbed, you're killin' me. Don't bring any more troops into the area than are already there. The Burmese rabble are THE WORST LCUs in the game. Full stop. Get them out of Burma in good order, let them fill out their TOEs and gain experience by prepping for a target. I'd make sure that those BBs and SCTFs are out of dodge before trying a counterlanding. However, I like the idea of striking them with your BB force, even if outnumbered.
