Understanding the "Show Requirements" Screen

Eagle Day to Bombing of the Reich is a improved and enhanced edition of Talonsoft's older Battle of Britain and Bombing the Reich. This updated version represents the best simulation of the air war over Britain and the strategic bombing campaign over Europe that has ever been made.

Understanding the "Show Requirements" Screen

Post by vimconfused »

This is the screen you get from the production section. It shows required / planned / actual production and stockpile. What I am finding difficult to get my head around is how it works out the size of the stockpile, and am also wondering if there is another hidden stockpile figure.

Lets take this example. I am setting aside some production for the Ju88G which is not yet available. I dedicate 5x assembly, have enough Ju88 parts already underway, and 10x Junkers 213E engines. Now clearly no complete aircraft are produced as its not available for a few months (though presumably 5 "research points" are added?) However, some components that do not go into complete aircraft create stockpiles. I have a stockpile of "Bf109 late parts" for example. The difference with this is that the Junkers 213E engines are *not* building up into a stockpile because they are classified as "required"... is this because of the 5 Ju88 assembly lines? So I don't get why some do and some don't.

It's more difficult because it occurred to me that one of the ways of overcoming the engine production line deficit (there isn't enough to make complete aircraft depending on how many two and four engine assemblies you produce), would be to create a stockpile before the aircraft is available. Unfortunately this is not happening with the Junkers 213E engine.

Following on from this I was wondering if there was another hidden stockpile figure - of completed parts + engines (such as in my Ju88G example) awaiting an assembly component (when available)?

Can someone please explain further? Would I be correct in assuming that if I reduced Ju88G assemblies to 4, then 2 of the engines would be added to a stockpile? How does this work with research... I read somewhere about a complete (but unavailable) assembly adding one research point, but forget how many it is estimated you need.

From the patch readme:

Increased research requirements - now operates on a scale from 100 per
month if the Aircraft is close to production up to over 800 for very late
models in the early game. Basically, the reward for effort is greator the
closer you are to production.

You are correct in that you need one active assembly + one part in stockpile + the needed number of engines in stockpile to create 1 research point.

Not clear why you are not getting stockpiled engines for future use. Although I am unclear myself if these stockpiled parts and engines actually are used up in creating the research point.

Thanks for the information. I get the idea of 100 points per month brought forward, didn't realise it was more the further from the real date it is, but makes sense. It does however appear that the research consumes these engines and parts *unless* there is a hidden stockpile of partly assembled aircraft "awaiting assembly". Do you know whether this works in one month increments, or is it worked out daily based on a proportion? In other words, if you've got say 50 points, does the type appear two weeks early?

The plot thickens. Reduced Ju88G assembly by 1, meaning a saving of 2 engines. Since I was previously at a notional deficit of 1, I should have been stockpiling 1 engine per day. However for two successive days after, my Junkers 213E engine stockpile actually reducedby 1 each day! I think this supports the idea that available engines are being associated with parts (if available, but I've got lots of spare Ju88 parts) for some sort of hidden stockpile of partly built aircraft.

Everything is used by everything.

You will have a stockpile of assemblies using your Junkers 213E. There is no logic behind you not seeing how many assemblies you have stockpiled, it just worked out that way. I am working on the new production screens to make it all much easier to understand.
