Looking for data on a Soviet tank

SPWaW is a tactical squad-level World War II game on single platoon or up to an entire battalion through Europe and the Pacific (1939 to 1945).

Looking for data on a Soviet tank

Post by Commander Klank »

I'm looking for data on a early war Soviet tank. It was armed with a 57mm long barreled gun and was going to be the Soviet mainbattle tank. The Soviets made a few dozen and then decided to go with the T-34 desighn.

It may have been based on the T-40 hull. I seen a web page on it but lost the link. I know one of you guys can pull through for me:)

Tanks in advance....:D

The t34/57mm is already out there, from what I remember the last time it came up here, there may have just been a couple of prototypes that were lost somewhere near Moscow. They decided the 57mm gun was too small to shoot at infantry so it wasn't put into common use. Later they went with the 85mm gun and got both a larger he round and better AP performance.
thanks, John.

Hello,

Check this:

You can read they were more than prototypes...

Well, take a look at A-20, A-32 and finally the A-34 (which resulted as T-34). They all can be found at http://www.battlefield.ru/t34_76_1.html

Russians had a large amount of tank prototypes under design during world war II, but almost none ever entered combat. Quite sad that info on these tanks is extremely hard to come by - for example, a Finnish book "Punaiset panssarit" ["The Red Armour"] has a huge amount of different designs and subtypes the Soviets were designing. I guess I'll just have to buy it - or would any ohter Finn give us something interesting info on Soviet tanks?

And BTW, just take a look at the KV-4 design blueprints at http://www.battlefield.ru/kv_exp.html
This vehicle has strangely familiar profile. Perhaps it's the overall shape that reminds me of Panther?:D

I happen to have that 'Punaiset panssarit' book..a very good book, unfortunately most of the visitors on this forum would first need to learn Finnish to make any use of it :)

What comes to soviet tank prototypes and small production series, few examples: T26-TU and TN-26 command tanks, TR-4 and TR-26, armoured personnel carriers, T-26T and T-26T2, gun tractors, TR4-1 and TB-26, ammo carriers, T-26Ts and TTs-26, fuel carriers. IT-26 bridge layer, T-26 with mine clearing rollers. Yep, those are all variants of the T-26 tank.

Warhorse, wanna make some icons??? ;)

My mistake, I must have thought of some other book of Soviet tanks... :D
I wonder what the SPWAW would become, if all those strange prototypes would be included (like Panzer IX and Pz X)? Science fiction game?:D
