1942 Barbarossa

Post by mutant1 »

In our Facist Tide game France will not fall before summer 1941, 1939 and 1940 had only 2 impulses with Fine. Any tactics for a 1942 Barbarossa ?

Build all your mountain units and engineers asap and consider attacking in Jan/Feb if you have redeployed enough power and especially if you are moving first and weather is snow. Snow is not your enemy, storm and blizzard are. You can often attack in rain to clean up units that you've bypassed.

*Points again at the WiF-List Archive* your question is covered there. I cannot remember enough to add more than what has already been said, but have a look over there and there will be something.

I've seen a '42 Barbarossa that had moderate success, but have you considered waiting for '43? I'm not sure what your on-map forces consist of, but if you have the right mix you could drive south, take Suez, Iraq, Saudi Arabia and then Persia. The extra front could tie down some Russian forces and allow you to stretch them a bit thinner when you do go to war. I faced a '43 attack as Russia once, and though it was more akin to 'turning point Kiev' than it was to 'turning point Stalingrad', the Axis did manage to make some progress in their advance from the south, and they almost aligned Turkey from the Persian side (paradrop on an open hex failed or they would have).

We finally got around to Jan/Feb 1942 and Barbarossa. Got a bit lucky with snow impulses in The Artic the whole turn. In the north Vitbesk fell and in the south Kiev was taken and Dnieper crossed on several places. 11 Russian corps lost, not bad for a Jan/Feb that is not finished yet, a 7 after next Allied impulse (9 if all pass)

Thanks for the MNT tip, 7 MNT and 3 Finns are operating in the north
