Carrier Airstrike with Missing Fighters

Post by OklahomaCity »

About 60 carrier bombers showed up with only 4 fighters. About 40 fighters were placed on escort with 30% CAP. None were resting, search or training. Fatigue was at zero. Is there something I can do better to ensure that escort fighters show up with the bombers at the target?

Maybe your fighters get lost during airstrike. That can happen in any circusmstance, but it's more probable if weather is bad or strike distance is long.

Were there any messages flashing acrost the screen such as 'x Fighter Squadron lost in clouds' or something like that? That would be the best explaination. Too bad though...

The most common solution is to keep your altitudes relatively close (TB at 9k, DB at 12k, and F at 15k). If your fighters are at 25k, they may go do their own thing. Another issue is your squadron leaders. They are so many pressing needs for PPs early in the war that leadership quality is often overlooked. Your fighters need high Air and Aggressive ratings.

Actually I usually have my fighters go in at exactly the same altitude as my bombers and have no problems except sometimes my fighters go in early and get to the destination before the bombers. Which is okay too as they take out most of the Cap before the bombers arrive

No you did everything to max the chances. Still this can happen. As it did in RL. [;)]
